Oddish -- Burning Shadows Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Oddish from the Burning Shadows set.  Oddish is a Basic, Grass type Pokemon card with a HP of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to Fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  This card does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move on this card is called Poison Powder, for one Grass Energy card, this move Poisons the defending Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Oddish is a Basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Gloom, and a Stage 2 evolution in Vileplume, which I'll be reviewing the next couple of days, you'll more than likely want to use some of those Pokemon with this card, however, since I have not reviewed any of those cards yet, I will just act like Oddish does not have any evolution forms and that it will be used on its own.  Also, Oddish does have a second Stage 2 evolution form in Bellossom, but the most recent set to include this Pokemon is Ancient Origins, which is no longer in the Standard Format for the Pokemon TCG.  On its own, this card is very similar to Caterpie from this set which I gave a 0 out of 5 rating, it has a low HP, and only one move.  Unlike Caterpie, at least this card can do something when attacking, since it isn't based off a coin flip.  Poisoning the defending Pokemon at least lets you get 10 damage on that Pokemon between each player's turn.  Because this card has a low HP, I would not recommend using on its own, this is a good start to this line, if you put this card into the Active Pokemon spot to start the game, Poison the defending Pokemon, then evolve Oddish into Gloom the next turn.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Burning Shadows set.  Despite having a low HP and only one move, I do like the fact that the one move on this card has long lasting effects, even if Oddish is no longer in the Active Pokemon spot, but, like most Pokemon with low HP, this card makes zero sense to use in the Active Pokemon spot after the start of the game as it will get knocked out in one hit very easily.  So like I mentioned above, this card isn't great on its own, but as a start to the line ending with Vileplume, it is decent.

Oddish -- Ancient Origins Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Oddish from the Ancient Origins set.  Oddish is the first card that I've reviewed from the Ancient Origins set.  Oddish is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an HP of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Oddish does not have an Ability or an Ancient Trait and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Trip Over, for one grass energy card this move does 10 damage plus 10 more damage if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Oddish is a basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Gloom, and two Stage 2 evolution forms in Vileplume and Bellossom, which I'll be reviewing the next few days, you'll more than likely want to use some of those Pokemon with this card, however, since I have not reviewed any of those cards yet, I will just act like Oddish does not have any evolution forms and that it will be used on its own.  On its own, I would not recommend using this card in a deck mainly because this card has a below average HP.  The one move it does have can be used early on in games and can do above average damage if you get a heads when flipping a coin.  So I cannot recommend using this card on its own, but it should be a good start to the rest of this line and if forced to put this card into the active Pokemon spot it should be able to hold its own for one turn.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Ancient Origins set.  Besides having a below average HP, this card is pretty decent, having one quick move that can do above average damage and a low retreat cost.  So like I said in the strategy section, this card shouldn't be used on its own, but it is a decent start to the rest of this Pokemon family in the Ancient Origins set.

Oddish -- Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Oddish from the Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Set.  This is the first card in the new set, and I'll be reviewing every Pokemon card in the set in the next month or two.  I'll be reviewing the cards in the order they are in the set, so if you're looking for me to review a certain card, looking at the set will help you know when I'll be reviewing it.  So, Oddish is a basic, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to water type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Oddish does not have an Ability, but it does have two moves.  The first move is called Absorb and for one grass type energy card this move does 10 damage and heals 10 damage from Oddish as well.  Oddish's second move is called Acid and for two colorless energy cards this move does 20 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Oddish has a stage 1 evolution in Gloom, and a stage 2 evolution in Vileplume, it would be best if you kept Oddish and then Gloom on the bench until you can evolve this line into its stage 2 evolution, then move the stage 2 card into the active Pokemon spot.  If you have to put Oddish into the active Pokemon spot, you'll want to use Acid every turn if you can because it does more damage than Absorb, but definitely consider using Absorb if you need to heal some damage from Oddish.  Besides looking to attack, I would definitely try to evolve Oddish into Gloom as soon as possible.  I could see using 1 of these cards in a deck on its own, since it has two quick moves, and one requires only colorless energy cards.  With that being said, I would definitely suggest that if you have Oddish in your deck, using its evolution cards as well.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average basic Pokemon card.  The only thing that isn't average on this card is its hp, which is a bit low, but I think Absorb makes up for this slightly below average HP, plus both of Oddish's moves are good.  So like I mentioned in the strategy section of this review, this card is okay by itself, but is much better with its evolutions.
