Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Jirachi EX Full Art from the Plasma Blast Pokemon Card Set. Jirachi is a basic, EX, metal type Pokemon card with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to psychic type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Jirachi EX's Ability is called Steller Guidance, this Ability allows you to search your deck for a supporter card when you move Jirachi from your hand to your bench. Besides the Ability, Jirachi just has one move called Hypnostrike, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one metal, and does 60 damage, however it puts both Pokemon to sleep.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, because Jirachi EX is a basic Pokemon card you won't need to use any other cards with this card. But remember, because this card is an EX card, if this card is knocked out, two prize cards are taken instead of one. So knowing this, you'll want to avoid using this EX Pokemon card at all costs. Jirachi has way too low of an hp and an Ability that can be only used once, and only one move that is way below average. I don't even want to think about a strategy when using this card because it is that bad. There is absolutely no way I would ever put this card into a deck, not only does it have a weak attack but it puts Jirachi to sleep that same turn so you may not be able to attack again and then get knocked out and lose 2 prize cards.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is the worst EX Pokemon card I have ever reviewed and I can see why this card isn't worth anything at all, it is incredibly horrible. Stay away from this card at all costs, the only reason you would want to have this card in your collection is if you're a collector and trying to complete the Plasma Blast set.

Also, on a side note, seeing that there is nowhere else to comment, I'll say it here. Jirachi is not completely useless. Its ability is kinda good and I have seen it used in popular decks. One example is here: http://thetopcut.net/2013/11/26/pokemon-tcg-beginner-decks-garchompaltaria/
ReplyDeletewhere Pooka uses it similar to a trainer (somewhat like Skyla, except that this is not a supporter and you can use the supporter you search for in the same turn). This can be useful if you have Jirachi in hand, or something like a level ball (given its 90 HP) in hand, and you really need a supporter for some instant draw power or for some other particular purpose like disrupting the opponent's hand using N. It's one use and it's an EX with low HP, fair enough, but you can use just one of it like Pooka did in the above example and it can be quite a useful support Pokemon which you can just keep on the bench. So, although it's not a great card all by itself, it's quite a good supporter and I would probably give it a higher rating than what you have given.
Also, LOL on the Deoxys' price part after the question. Now I know that you CPed from the Deoxys EX Full Art card and you forgot to edit the last part after the question. ;)

I'm guessing that the promo deoxys from the tin is about 5$, the regular deoxys is about 10$, and the FA version of deoxys is about 15$.
ReplyDeleteThe last set Jirachi was in was the Call of Legends set. It was a rare holo, with 60 HP, the psychic type, an attack called time hollow, an poke power called stardust song, a 2x weakness to psychic, and a retreat cost of one colorless energy.

ReplyDeleteBad review. You don't really go in depth of what the card has to offer. You completely dismissed the ability, and didn't talk about how good it is. Think, every form of Pokemon search in your hand turns into an out to a Supporter, ANY Supporter. You got a bad hand with no Supporter, but you have an Ultra Ball? Search out a Jirachi and grab a Professor Juniper to refresh your hand. There are a LOT of downsides to the card, but a 1/5? That is for cards that are completely useless. Jirachi isn't useless, it can save games. I would give it a 3 out of 5. Not trying to be rude, but just saying.
ReplyDeleteOh man. Oh MAN, did you mess this one up! Sure, Jirachi isn't much of a fighter for an EX-type, but it's ability is... it's pretty much one of the best in the entire TCG!
ReplyDeleteImagine, for a minute, you had a Support card that said 'Copy the effect of any other Support card in your deck'. By definition, it'd be the best Support card ever made. Now imagine if it said 'Copy the effect of any other Support card in your deck AND put a 90hp Pokémon on your bench'. This card is effectively Jirachi. Sure, it's an EX with stats worse than a regular, but it's free! Even if you never get to use it, as long as your opponent can't kill it from the bench, it's better than nothing no matter what!
...well, unless you run out of Supporter cards in your deck. Or if your bench is completely full of good cards somehow. Okay, so it doesn't go in every deck, but it's still great!
