Voltorb -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Voltorb from the XY Evolutions Pokemon Card Set.  Voltorb is a basic, lightning type Pokemon card with a HP of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to metal type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Voltorb does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Continuous Tumble, which for one colorless energy card does 10 damage times the number of heads you get when you flip a coin until you get tails.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Voltorb is a basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Electrode, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, the first thing you'll want to look at is if this card has a solid HP, 60 HP is average for a Basic Pokemon, so it passes that test, next you want to see if it can attack for only one energy card, Voltorb passes that test as well, but since Voltorb only has one move, it can't be used much later in the game since its one move isn't very powerful.  The final way to test to see if Voltorb could be used on its own is if Continuous Tumble can do at least 10 damage or more every single turn, and this test Voltorb fails, meaning it isn't worthy of a spot in a deck without using Electrode all because it can't for sure do damage every single time when it attacks.  Of course, if you are using this card with Electrode, you could either keep the card on the bench and evolve it, or try your luck with Continuous Tumble, potentially improving your chances of doing damage by attaching a Trick Coin trainer to Voltorb.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Electrode, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card.  Like I mentioned in detail in the strategy section of this post, this card is pretty solid overall, having a good HP, a move that can be used quickly, and a low retreat cost, but because this card is limited overall, having only one move, and the one move that this card has is based off a coin flip, there is no reason to use this card on its own.

Voltorb -- Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Voltorb from the Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Set.  Voltorb is a basic, lightning type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to metal type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Voltorb does not have an Ancient Trait or an Ability, but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Thunder Wave, for one lightning energy card this move paralyzes the defending Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin.  Voltorb's second move is called Big Explosion, this move requires two energy cards to use, one each of lightning and colorless, and does 60 damage, however, Voltorb also does 60 damage to itself, which essentially knocks Voltorb out.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Voltorb is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Electrode, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, I would not recommend using this card in a deck.  The main reason that I say this is that this card can do no damage at all without knocking out itself.  So you can't put this card into the active Pokemon spot and expect it to do damage to the defending Pokemon for a few turns.  The only thing it can do is possibly paralyze the defending Pokemon, but if you were to use this card as a starter type Pokemon, the defending Pokemon more than likely wouldn't be able to do much damage anyway.  So unless you just want to give your opponent a prize card right away in the game, do not use this card in your deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Electrode, this is a very poor Basic Pokemon card.  Even though this card has an average HP, low retreat cost, and two moves, I am still giving this card a below average rating because of how poor both of its moves are.  This card is basically useless in a deck and should only ever be considered if you want to use Electrode in your deck and in that case Voltorb would never make it to the active Pokemon spot.

Voltorb -- Pokemon X and Y Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Voltorb from the X and Y Pokemon Card Set.  Voltorb is a basic, lightning type Pokemon card with an hp of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Voltorb's Ability is called Destiny Burst and says that if Voltorb is your active Pokemon and is knocked out, if you get a heads when you flip a coin, you can put 5 damage counters on the Pokemon that knocked you out.  Besides the Ability, Voltorb just has one move called Rollout, this move requires one colorless energy card and does 10 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Voltorb is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Electrode, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own I could see using this card in any type deck if you need one more card in your deck.  Even though this card has a low hp, this card could work any time during the game because of its Ability, you don't even have to put any energy cards on Voltorb just put it on your bench and if you have to put a card into the active Pokemon spot you can put this one in there and then potentially do 50 damage when it is knocked out.  With that being said, I personally wouldn't use this card in a deck because of its low hp and the 50/50 chance you have at Voltorb's Ability actually working.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average basic Pokemon card from the X and Y set. I like that this card has an Ability in addition to a normal, average, basic Pokemon move.  I wish Destiny Burst would be a little better, but it definitely intrigues me and could definitely affect the way a game turns out.  So this card wouldn't be my first choice to put into a deck, but as a last resort, this card would be perfect.

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Voltorb from the Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card Set.  Voltorb is a basic, lightning type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Voltorb does not have Ability and it only has one move.  The only move this card has is called Rollout, this move requires two energy cards to attack, one each of lightning and colorless, and does 20 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Voltorb is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Electrode, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So on its own, this card could be used in a deck if you need just one more card to make it 60 cards in the deck, however it wouldn't be one of the first cards on my list of cards that I would want to put into a deck.  If you do have this card in a deck, I would not use more than 1 or 2 of them in a lightning type deck, I would get this card out into the active Pokemon spot early, put two energy cards on it, and use Rollout every turn, until it is either knocked out or you can retreat it for one of your set up benched Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average basic Pokemon card.  Even though this card can't attack with only one energy card, I'm giving this card an average rating still because Voltorb has an average hp, low retreat cost, and the one move that it does have is an average move, and more importantly for a basic Pokemon, a move that does not depend on coin flips.
