Tangela -- Burning Shadows Pokemon Card Review

Tangela Burning Shadows Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Tangela from the Burning Shadows Pokemon Card Set.  Tangela is a Basic, Grass type Pokemon card with a HP of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to Fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Tangela does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move on this card is called Bind Down, for one Grass Energy card, this move does 10 damage, plus it makes your opponent's Active Pokemon unable to retreat during your opponent's next turn.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Tangela is a Basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Tangrowth, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, despite this card having a high HP, especially for a Basic Pokemon that has at least one evolution form, I would still pass on using this card in a deck on its own.  I do like the fact that this card only requires one Energy to attack, making it a very quick attacker, but only being able to do 10 damage per turn is pretty weak, especially later in games, where it would take forever to knock out a Pokemon doing 10 damage a turn.  While making the defending Pokemon unable to retreat during your opponent's next turn may be useful, it would be better if the defending Pokemon was inflicted with a Special Condition first, which is something not possible with this card.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Tangrowth, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Burning Shadows set.  Like I mentioned above, this card has an excellent HP and a quick attacking move, but because this card can only do a maximum of 10 damage per turn and it only has one move, it is below average overall, and not a card you'll want to use in a deck without Tangrowth.

Tangela -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Tangela Evolutions Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Tangela from the XY Evolutions Pokemon Card Set.  Tangela is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with a HP of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Tangela does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Bind, for two energy cards, one each of grass and colorless, this move does 20 damage, plus it paralyzes the defending Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin.  Tangela's second move is called Poison Powder and for three grass energy cards does 30 damage, plus it poisons the defending Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Tangela is a basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Tangrowth, you'll more than likely want to use this card with its evolution form, but because Evolutions is a Base Set reprint set, it does not include a Tangrowth card, the most recent to include Tangrowth is Steam Siege.  So, on its own, only looking at this Tangela card, I would recommend passing on including this card in a deck.  If you do include this card in a deck, you'll want to include it in a mainly grass type deck since it mainly requires grass type energy.  With that being said, the reason I wouldn't use this card in a deck is because it is just too slow on the attack and even if set up, is under-powered at best.  The only way I could see using this card in a deck would be if you're building a grass type deck that has several Pokemon that can inflict special conditions, and since both moves on this card can do that, it would fit right in with the deck.  But overall, again, I would recommend passing on this card, especially since it is so slow on the attack.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering any Tangrowth cards, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card.  Just like with most of the Evolutions cards that I've reviewed so far, this card just isn't very good, the update from Base Set wasn't enough, and this card has too low of an HP, is too slow on the attack, is too under-powered, and has too high of retreat cost, so look elsewhere for Basic, grass type Pokemon.

Tangela -- Steam Siege Pokemon Card Review

Tangela Steam Siege Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Tangela from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card Set.  This is the first card that I'll be reviewing from the Steam Siege set.  Tangela is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Tangela does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Slam, for two energy cards, one each of grass and colorless, this move does 30 damage times the number of heads you get when flipping two coins.  Tangela's second move is called Mega Drain, for three energy cards, two grass and one colorless, this move does 40 damage, plus it heals 20 damage from Tangela.

So, on its own, I would not recommend using this card in a deck.  The main reason I say this is because most times when looking at Basic Pokemon, you want to answer the question of could I use this card early on in the game, but the answer to this is probably no.  Even though this card has two moves, both moves are under-powered and you need to waste three energy cards if you want to move Tangela out of the active Pokemon spot.  So unless you're using this card to get to Tangrowth, do not use this card in a deck on its own.  If you have to use this card in a deck, a Trick Coin trainer will help you with Slam, giving you a better chance at at least being able to do some damage, and a Switch trainer will avoid having to discard 3 energy cards when retreating.  But like I said, neither move on this card is that great, so you should never want to have this card in the active Pokemon spot.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Tangrowth, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Steam Siege set.  Even though this card is a Basic Pokemon, it is more similar to an under-powered Stage 1 card, it has a solid HP, but the card is extremely slow on the attack, has a high retreat cost, and just can't do that much damage for the amount of energy required.  So I cannot recommend using Tangela in a deck on its own.

Tangela -- Primal Clash Pokemon Card Review

Tangela Primal Clash Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Tangela from the Primal Clash Pokemon Card Set.  Tangela is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Tangela does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  Its first move is called Absorb, this move requires two energy cards to use, one each of colorless and grass, and does 20 damage, plus it heals 20 damage from Tangela.  Tangela's second move is called Vine Whip.  This move requires three energy cards to use, two grass and one colorless, and does 30 damage.

So, on its own, unless you really need one more Basic grass type Pokemon card in your deck, I would not recommend using this card.  Tangela does have a first good move which I would recommend using if you use this card in your deck.  I wouldn't recommend using this card because it is slow to attack and Vine Whip is a very poor move damage wise, doing much less damage than most Pokemon cards can do for 3 energy cards.  When I review Tangrowth tomorrow, if that card is good, this card would definitely be worthy to use with it.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Tangrowth, this card is a below average Basic Pokemon card.  This card does have a good HP, and one good move, but overall it isn't that great, since Vine Whip is a very poor move, it has a higher retreat cost, and is slow to attack.  So like I said previously, unless you're looking for one more grass type Basic Pokemon card, stay away from this card.

Tangela -- Legendary Treasures Pokemon Card Review

Tangela Legendary Treasures Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Tangela from the Legendary Treasures Pokemon Card Set.  Tangela is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to water type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Tangela does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Beat, for one grass energy card this move does 10 damage.  Tangela's second move is called Flog, for three energy cards, two colorless and one grass, this move does 20 damage plus 20 more damage if you get a heads when you flip a coin.

So on its own, this card could be used in a grass type deck if and only if you need one more basic Pokemon in your deck.  I would not use more than one of these cards in a deck.  The strategy around this card would be to get it into the active Pokemon spot early and use Beat and eventually Flog or to just have this card in your deck to make sure you can get a basic Pokemon card onto your bench.  One thing you should notice about this card is that if you just want to use Beat on this card, you'll have to add another energy card to it to retreat it.  I personally would not use this card in a deck, but it isn't the worse basic Pokemon card out there.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average to slightly below average basic Pokemon card from the Legendary Treasures set.  I like that this card has above average hp for a basic Pokemon and that it has two moves.  Neither of these two moves are that great, and to retreat this card it costs two energy cards, so that is why I can't give this card higher than an average rating.  This card could be used in a deck on its own, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Tangela -- Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Review

Tangela Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Tangela from the Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Set.  Tangela is a basic, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to water type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Tangela does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  Its first move is called Nap and for one grass energy card this move allows you to heal 30 damage from Tangela.  Tangela's second move is called Vine Whip (wait, I thought this was Bulbasaur's move!) and for three energy cards, two colorless and one grass, this move does 30 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Tangela is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Tangrowth, I would recommend keeping Tangela on your bench and evolving it into Tangrowth(which I'll be reviewing tomorrow) before moving it into the active Pokemon spot.  Sometimes, these basic Pokemon that evolve into stage 1 Pokemon make good starter Pokemon because they are very quick, however this is not the case with Tangela.  I would not recommend using it as a starter Pokemon at all, because the only move it has to attack with requires three energy cards.  With that being said, if you get three energy cards on Tangela and have to move it into the active Pokemon spot it is a decent Pokemon to use, because it can do 50 damage per turn and if it gets close to feinting, you can always use Nap to heal some damage from it.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an below average basic Pokemon card.  If you didn't know what stage this card was, it looks awfully similar to a weak stage 1 Pokemon.  Because of this, this card isn't great as a starter Pokemon, even though it has a high hp and can do some damage, it isn't very good because of its retreat cost, and high attack costs.  I would not recommend using this card in a deck on its own, you'll have to check into tomorrow's review to see if you should use this card with Tangrowth in a deck.  And make sure if you have any comments or questions about this card or strategy in general to comment on this review, I'll make sure to answer the comment.
