Metapod -- Burning Shadows Pokemon Card Review

Metapod Burning Shadows Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Metapod from the Burning Shadows Pokemon Card set.  Metapod is a Stage 1, Grass type Pokemon card, with a HP of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to Fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Metapod does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move on this card is called Ram, for one Grass Energy card, this move does 20 damage.  Shed Skin is the second move on this card, for two Colorless Energy cards, this move heals 40 damage from Metapod.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Metapod is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Caterpie into play (I reviewed Caterpie from this set yesterday) and then evolve Caterpie into Metapod.  Caterpie does have a Stage 2 evolution in Butterfree, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Metapod is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Caterpie you'll know that it was an extremely poor Basic Pokemon card overall, not only did it have a low HP, which makes it pretty much impossible to play later in games, but the only move on the card required two Energy cards to attack, and only had a 50% chance of doing damage when attacking.  I recommended avoiding this Caterpie card at all costs, and never putting the card into the Active Pokemon spot.  Knowing this about Caterpie from the Burning Shadows set and looking at this Metapod card, this card is a tiny bit better than Caterpie, mainly because it has a higher HP, which a Stage 1 card should have, and it can do the same amount of damage as Caterpie, but can do that amount of damage every turn and for one Energy card less.  The only reason you'd want to use Shed Skin on this card is if you have this card in the Active Pokemon spot before you can evolve Metapod into Butterfree.  So does it make sense to use the first two Pokemon in this line without Butterfree, probably not.  For a Stage 1 Pokemon, this card has a low HP, making it very vulnerable later in games, and with only one move doing damage, unless you plan on using this card in the Active Pokemon spot to stall and give you time to set up your Benched Pokemon, Shed Skin has little use.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Burning Shadows set.  Although this card is better than Caterpie, it isn't that much better, combined with Caterpie from the Burning Shadows set, I would give these two cards a 1 out of 5 rating.  Neither Pokemon has a high HP, both are limited in what it can do when attacking, and both are weak any more than a turn into the game.

Metapod -- Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Review

Metapod Sun and Moon Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Metapod from the Sun and Moon Pokemon Card set.  Metapod is a Stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with a HP of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Metapod does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Iron Defense, for one colorless energy card this move prevents all damage done to Metapod during your opponent's next turn if you get a heads when flipping a coin.  Metapod's second move is called Bug Bite, for three colorless energy cards this move does 40 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Metapod is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Caterpie into play (I reviewed Caterpie from this set yesterday) and then evolve Caterpie into Metapod.  Metapod does have a Stage 2 evolution in Buttefree, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Metapod is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Caterpie, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon overall.  The main reason for this was its below average HP, but also because even though it had two moves, the only move that could do any damage required two energy cards instead of one.  So knowing this about Caterpie from this set and looking at this Metapod, I do like that both cards in this line so far all require colorless energy cards to attack, meaning they can be used in any type deck.  With that being said, there really isn't a reason to use Caterpie and Metapod without Butterfree, since Caterpie is below average on its own, and Metapod, like Kakuna, is a Stage 1 evolution form more in the shape of a defensive card and a card just to stall until you can get to Butterfree or Beedrill.  So unless you're using 4 Double Colorless energy cards in your deck or if you need a Pokemon to give you a chance at stalling to set up your benched Pokemon, I wouldn't use Caterpie or Metapod in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Sun and Moon set.  There are some positives with this card, like how both of its move require colorless energy cards to use and that it has two moves, but this card has too low of an HP, too weak of moves, and a way too high of retreat cost to warrant serious use in a deck.  Together, Caterpie and Metapod from this set get a 1 out of 5 rating, neither should be used in a deck without Butterfree.

Metapod -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Metapod Evolutions Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Metapod from the Evolutions Pokemon Card set.  Metapod is a Stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with a HP of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Metapod does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Stiffen, for two colorless energy cards this move reduces damage done to it by your opponent during their next turn by 40.  Metapod's second move is called Stun Spore, for two grass energy cards, this move does 20 damage, plus it paralyzes the defending Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Metapod is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Caterpie into play (I reviewed Caterpie from this set yesterday) and then evolve Caterpie into Metapod.  Metapod does have a Stage 2 evolution in Butterfree, but it isn't in this set, the most recent sets to have Butterfree are Flashfire and Generations, but a Butterfree will also be in Sun and Moon.  Since Butterfree isn't in this set, I will only be looking at the first two Pokemon in this line by themselves, yesterday I reviewed Caterpie and thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon overall.  It was fairly solid other than its extremely low HP, which made it in my opinion unusable in play.  So knowing this about Caterpie and looking at this Metapod card, this card is very similar in that it is solid overall outside of its HP, and because of this, I can't recommend using either card in this line without using the whole line.  I do like that Metapod has two moves, and if you're using 4 Double Colorless energy cards in your deck, for only one energy card you could give yourself a fair amount of time to find Butterfree in your deck or set up your benched Pokemon when using Stiffen.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Evolutions set.  This Stage 1 card has a well below average HP making this card below average overall.  Because both Caterpie and Metapod have such low HP, I would pass on using either of these Pokemon in a deck without Butterfree.  Combined, these cards get only a 1 out of 5 rating from me.

Metapod -- Flashfire Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Metapod from the Flashfire Pokemon Card set.  Metapod is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Metapod's Ability is called Adaptive Evolution, this allows you to evolve Metapod on the first turn you play this card.  Besides the Ability, Metapod has one move called Harden, this move requires two colorless energy cards and prevents all damage done to Metapod by your opponent's active Pokemon if that Pokemon does 60 damage or less.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Metapod is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Caterpie into play (I reviewed Caterpie from this set yesterday) and then evolve Caterpie into Metapod.  Metapod does have a stage 2 evolution in Butterfree that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Metapod is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read yesterday's review of Caterpie, you'll know that I thought the card was below average and quite limited in what it could do because it had such a low hp and only one move.  But because you can utilize Caterpie's Ability and evolve it into Metapod right away this should help if you're looking to use the first two Pokemon in this line.  However, this Metapod card is quite similar to Caterpie in that it can evolve right away into Butterfree which you'll more than likely want to do, but because I haven't reviewed that card yet this Ability won't help us.  Your only option with this card is to use Harden every turn which never does any damage, only prevents your opponent from attacking you.  So the only way I could see someone wanting to use this Pokemon in a deck is if they think they can set up their benched Pokemon extremely quickly, so you would get Caterpie and then Metapod into the active Pokemon spot to start the game, use Harden every turn until your benched Pokemon is ready and then move one of those Pokemon into the active Pokemon spot.  I personally would stay away from this line at all costs.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an extremely poor stage 1 Pokemon card from the Flashfire set.  If you want to use this card without using Butterfree this card is absolutely horrendous because you can't attack with it and it has a low hp.  But if you think you can accomplish a lot with a defensive card go for it and use this card.  But in my opinion, both of the first two Pokemon in this lot are pretty bad, both individually and as a group these Pokemon get 1s from me.

Tomorrow's Pokemon Card:
