Lanturn -- Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Review

Lanturn Sun and Moon Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Lanturn from the Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Set.  Lanturn is a Stage 1, Lightning type Pokemon card, with a HP of 110. It has a x2 weakness to Fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Metal type Pokemon, and a two Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Lanturn does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Confuse Ray, for one Colorless Energy card this move Confuses the defending Pokemon.  Lanturn's second move is called Aqua Spark, for three Energy cards, one Lightning, and two Colorless, this move does 60 damage plus 60 more damage if Lanturn has any Water Energy attached to it.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Lanturn is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Chinchou into play (I reviewed Chinchou from this set yesterday) and then evolve Chinchou into Lanturn.  If you read yesterday's review of Chinchou, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card overall.  I thought the card could be used as a starter type Pokemon since its Searching Light move allowed you to look at one of your face-down Prize cards, other than that, it could do damage when attacking but it was extremely slow to do so.  So knowing this about Chinchou and looking at this Lanturn card, the first thing I would recommend is if you're building a dual type deck of Water and Lightning, this Lanturn card is a must have, since its Aqua Spark move would do 120 damage per turn every single turn if you're able to attach Water Energy to it.  You could still start the game with Chinchou in the active Pokemon spot, and then evolve it into Lanturn right away, since Lanturn can Confuse the defending Pokemon for one energy card.  So again, if you're building a dual type deck, this line is a must, otherwise, this line is average at best and probably can be ignored.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average to above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Sun and Moon set.  Like I mentioned in the strategy section of this post, in a dual type deck featuring Water and Lightning type Energy, having at least a 1-1 line of Chinchou and Lanturn is a great way to power up your deck, I really like Lanturn's potential to do 120 damage per turn, plus it can inflict a Special Condition on the defending Pokemon.  Together with Chinchou from this set, which I gave a 2 out of 5 rating, I would give these cards a 3 out of 5 combined rating.

Lanturn -- Primal Clash Pokemon Card Review

Lanturn Primal Clash Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Lanturn from the Primal Clash Pokemon Card Set.  Lanturn is a stage 1, lightning type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to metal type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Lanturn does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Dive, this move requires two energy cards to use, one each of water and colorless, and does 40 damage, plus if you get a heads when you flip a coin, all effects of an attack against Lanturn during your opponent's next turn is prevented.  Lanturn's second move is called Take Down, this move requires three energy cards to use, two colorless and one water, and does 80 damage, however Lanturn also does 20 damage to itself when using this move.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Lanturn is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Chinchou into play (I reviewed Chinchou from this set yesterday) and then evolve Chinchou into Lanturn.  If you read yesterday's review of Chinchou, you'll know that I thought Chinchou was a slightly below average Basic Pokemon, it had a good HP, but it also had only one move which was average and a high retreat cost, so overall I did not recommend using it on its own.  So knowing this about Chinchou and looking at this Lanturn card, the first thing you'll want to make sure and note is that both Chinchou and Lanturn require water energy cards not lightning, the second thing you should note is that these two Pokemon combined would make a nice supporting line in your water type deck.  I would try and get Chinchou and evolve it into Lanturn early in the game and get three energy cards on Lanturn as quickly as possible, that way you could do 80 damage turn with Take Down and knock out most Basic Pokemon in one turn, most other Pokemon in two turns.  Also, the earlier in the game you get Lanturn into the active Pokemon spot the more effective Dive will be, not only will Dive knock out Basic Pokemon in two turns, but the more times you flip a heads, make sure to use Trick Coin, the longer you'll have to set up your benched Pokemon.  So I would definitely include at least a 1-1 line of these two Pokemon cards in a water type deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Primal Clash set.  There really isn't anything I dislike about this card, it has an above average HP, two moves, both doing above average damage, and an average retreat cost.  Pair this card with the Chinchou from yesterday and I would give the two of them a combined rating of 3 out of 5, this line is definitely worth considering for use in a deck.

Lanturn -- Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card Review

Lanturn Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Lanturn from the Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card Set.  Lanturn is a stage 1, lightning type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Lanturn does not have an Ability, but it does have two moves, the first move that this card has is called Special Tackle, this move requires one lightning energy card and does 30 damage, plus 30 more damage if Lanturn has any special energy cards attached to it.  Lanturn's second move is called Extreme Current, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one lightning, and does 90 damage, however after using this move you must discard an energy card from Lanturn.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Lanturn is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Chinchou into play (I reviewed Chinchou from this set yesterday) and then evolve Chinchou into Lanturn.  If you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Chinchou was a very average basic Pokemon card.  Because of this, and after taking into account this card from the overview section of this post, I would recommend using a 1-1 line of Chinchou and Lanturn if you choose to use this line in your lightning type deck.  I would deal with this card and line in two separate ways depending on when I got Chinchou and Lanturn into my hand.  If I could get Lanturn into the active Pokemon spot very quickly, I would move it there, attach a Plasma Energy card or another special energy card to Lanturn and do 60 damage every turn for only 1 energy card using Special Tackle.  If I didn't get Lanturn into my hand until later in the game, I would evolve Chinchou into Lanturn on the bench, put at least 3 energy cards, preferably more, then move Lanturn into the active Pokemon spot and use Extreme Current every turn, of course unless the defending Pokemon would be knocked out by 30 damage or less.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average stage 1 Pokemon card.  I am giving this card an above average rating because I like both of Lanturn's moves and this card allows you to roll with a couple of different strategies in your deck.  So because of this card's versatility, I'm giving this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  Overall, I would give this line a 3 out of 5 rating, but any lightning type deck should take this line into consideration when the deck is being created.
