Herdier -- Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Review

Herdier Sun and Moon Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Herdier from the Sun and Moon Pokemon Card set.  Herdier is a Stage 1, Colorless type Pokemon card, with a HP of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to Fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Herdier's Ability is called Treasure Hunt and says that when you play Herdier from your hand to evolve one of your Pokemon, you may put and Item card from your discard pile into your hand.  Besides the Ability, this card has just one move called Bite, for three Colorless Energy cards, this move does 50 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Herdier is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Lillipup into play (I reviewed Lillipup from this set yesterday) and then evolve Lillipup into Herdier.  Lillipup does have a Stage 2 evolution in Stoutland, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Herdier is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Lillipup, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon overall, at least on its own.  The card couldn't be used as a starter type Pokemon since it required two Energy cards to attack, so it was slow, however, it could do up to 40 damage per turn for only two Colorless Energy cards and it did have an average HP and low retreat cost.  So knowing this about Lillipup and looking at this Herdier card, the only reason you'd want to play this card is for its Ability, since you can retrieve an Item card from your discard pile when evolving Lillipup into Herdier.  Herdier's only move, Bite, does below average damage, and there are lots of Pokemon out there that can do either more than 50 damage for three Energy cards, or do 50 damage for less than three Energy cards.  So, unless you can continuously evolve and devolve Herdier on the Bench, I would pass on using this line.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Sun and Moon set.  Similarly to Herdier, this card is somewhat solid overall, having a good HP, low retreat cost, plus one move and an Ability, but the only thing that is above average overall is its Ability, other than that, there is no reason to use this card.  Combined with Lillipup from this set, I would give this line a 2 out of 5 rating.

Herdier -- Pokemon X and Y Card Review

Herdier Pokemon X and Y Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Herdier from the X and Y Pokemon card set.  Herdier is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Herdier does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Bite, for two colorless energy cards this move does 20 damage.  Herdier's second move is called Jump On, for three colorless energy cards this move does 50 damage plus has the potential to do 20 more damage if you get a heads when you flip a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Herdier is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Lillipup into play (I reviewed Lillipup from this set yesterday) and then evolve Lillipup into Herdier.  Herdier does have a stage 2 evolution in Stoutland that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Herdier is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read yesterday's review of Lillipup, you will know that I thought that it was a pretty solid basic Pokemon card that could be used on its own since it had two moves, the only downside to the card was that it had only a 50 hp.  So if you're using 2 Lillipup cards in your deck, it definitely wouldn't hurt to include at least one Herdier card into your deck because it has the potential to do 70 damage a turn and it has a low retreat cost.  However, if you don't have the room for Herdier in your deck, I wouldn't recommend moving out a different card for this one because Herdier isn't that good.  Once you get Herdier into the active Pokemon spot the strategy is extremely straightforward, just use whichever move you have the necessary energy cards for.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a slightly below average stage 1 Pokemon card from the X and Y set.  I do like that this card has a low retreat cost, and two moves that require any types of energy cards, but I do not like its low hp, and the fact that Jump On may only do 50 damage a turn instead of 70.  So combined, Lillipup and Herdier get a 3 out of 5 rating from me, together they are quite average, yesterday I gave Lillipup a 3 rating and today I gave Herdier a 2.

Herdier -- Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Review

Herdier Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Herdier from the Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Set.  Herdier is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Herdier does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move this card has is called Bite, this move requires one colorless energy card and does 20 damage to the defending Pokemon.  Herdier's second move is called Take Down, this move requires three colorless energy cards and does 60 damage, however when using this move it does 10 damage to Herdier.

So if you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Lillipup was a slightly below average basic Pokemon card.  So with that being said, if you can, keep that card on the bench, evolve it into Herdier then attach up to three energy cards to Herdier and use Take Down most turns.  The thing you'll have to watch out for with this card is that Herdier already has a lower than average hp and with Take Down doing damage to Herdier it will knock out Herdier fairly fast.  So it is better to get this card into the active Pokemon spot early in the game so you face weaker Pokemon.  I would not use this line so far in my deck, but if you choose to I wouldn't want to use more than 1 each of Lillipup and Herdier.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average stage 1 Pokemon card. So it looks like the first two Pokemon in this Pokemon family aren't that great in the Boundaries Crossed set.  I do like that this card can be in any deck, but this card has a low hp, and neither of its moves is too great.  So I would not recommend using this card in your deck.

Herdier -- Dark Explorers Pokemon Card Review

Herdier Dark Explorers Pokemon Card Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Herdier from the Dark Explorers Pokemon Card Set.  This is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Herdier doesn't have an Ability but it does have two moves, the first move is called Roar which takes one colorless energy card and makes the opponent switch their active Pokemon with one of their benched Pokemon.  Herdier's second move is called Tackle and for two colorless energy cards, it does 30 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since this is a stage 1 Pokemon card with a stage 2 evolution in Stoutland, you'll want to keep Herdier on the bench until you can evolve it into Stoutland.  So I suggest not ever putting Herdier into the active Pokemon spot, if you have to though, I would suggest first using Roar to hopefully make your opponent put a weaker Pokemon into the active Pokemon spot, then after that until I am able to evolve into Stoutland, I would use Tackle every turn.  If I were to use Herdier in a deck, I would only use it to get to Stoutland, and I would have a 3-2-1 line of Lillipup, Herdier, and Stoutland in any type of deck, since all three of these Pokemon can use any type of energy.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is another below average Stage 1 Pokemon card, it has a low hp, high retreat cost, and two weak moves, I would not want to play this card at all, and I would dearly hope to evolve Herdier into Stoutland before putting Stoutland into the active Pokemon spot.
