Golurk 41/98 -- Ancient Origins Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Golurk from the Ancient Origins Pokemon Card Set.  This is the second Golurk card that I've reviewed from this set, the first being a psychic type card with an Ancient Trait.  Golurk is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  This Golurk card does not have an Ability or an Ancient Trait but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Dig Out, for one colorless energy card this move does 20 damage, however you must discard the top card of your deck when attacking, if that card is a fighting energy card, attach it to Golurk instead.  Golurk's second move is called Double Lariat, this move requires four energy cards to attack, three colorless and one fighting, and does 90 damage times the number of heads you get when you flip two coins.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Golurk is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Golett into play (I reviewed Golett from this set about a week ago) and then evolve Golett into Golurk.  If you read my review of Golett, you'll know that I thought that card was very poor, having a higher retreat cost than attack cost, and only having a 50/50 shot at doing any damage at all.  So knowing this about Golett and also knowing that I have already reviewed the other Golurk card from this set which is pretty decent overall, having an Ability that can make Golurk two types at once and then do up to 180 damage a turn, this Golurk card can do more damage, potentially every turn, but just like the first Golurk card from this set, is extremely slow on the attack, at least if you want to do major damage.  I probably wouldn't recommend using this card in a deck, just because it requires so many energy cards to attack and retreat, whereas the first Golurk card from this set, should be used for its Ability and set up on the bench.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Ancient Origins set.  This card does have a good HP and two moves that both do damage.  However, both moves that this card has just can't attack without any consequences, the first move makes you discard a card from your deck and the second one is a coin flip based move.  So together with Golett from this set, which I'm not a fan of, I would only give the two of them a 1 out of 5 rating, don't use them in a deck.

Golurk -- Ancient Origins Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Golurk from the Ancient Origins Pokemon Card Set.  Golurk is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  Golurk's Ancient Trait is called Stop and says to prevent all effects of your opponent's abilities done to Golurk.  Besides the Ancient Trait, this card has an Ability called Double Type and says that as long as Golurk is in play, it is both a psychic and a fighting type.  Finally, Golurk just has one move called Superpower, this move requires three colorless energy cards to use and does 80 damage plus 40 more damage if you choose to do 20 damage to your self.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Golurk is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Golett into play (I reviewed Golett from this set yesterday) and then evolve Golett into Golurk.  If you read yesterday's review of Golett, you'll know that I thought that card was very poor, having a higher retreat cost than attack cost, and only having a 50/50 shot at doing any damage at all.  So knowing this about Golett and looking at this Golurk card, this card has a ton of things going on with it, including an Ability, Ancient Trait, and a move, with that being said, unless you think Pokemon weak to psychic or fighting type Pokemon will be heavily used in the metagame, there probably isn't a point to using this card in your deck, since it is slow on the attack and has a huge retreat cost.  If you do think that you can do double the damage to Pokemon that are weak to fighting or psychic type Pokemon, go ahead and put a 1-1 line of Golett and Golurk into your deck setting it up on the bench.  This card can easily one hit knock out pretty much every Pokemon by doing 240 damage a turn if you decide to do 20 damage to Golurk, so be prepared to include some Potion cards in your deck.  But just on its own, I wouldn't waste four energy cards to only be able to do 80 damage a turn, so use this card with caution.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Ancient Origins set.  This card is below average against Pokemon that aren't weak to psychic or fighting types but is above average against those weak to the mentioned types, so overall it is average.  Combined with Golett, which is very poor, I cannot give these two cards better than a 2 out of 5 rating.

Golurk -- Furious Fists Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Golurk from the Furious Fists Pokemon Card Set.  Golurk is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  Golurk does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Wreck, for three energy cards, two colorless and one psychic, this move does 60 damage plus if there is a Stadium card in play this move does 60 more damage plus you can discard the Stadium card in play.  Golurk's second move is called Golurk Hammer, this move requires four energy cards, three colorless and one psychic, and does 100 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Golurk is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Golett into play (I reviewed Golett from this set yesterday) and then evolve Golett into Golurk.  If you read yesterday's review of Golett, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon because even though it had a high HP, it had two below average moves and a really high retreat cost.  So on its own I didn't recommend using it.  So knowing this about Golett and looking at this Golurk card, I would recommend using this card in a deck, but wouldn't use more than a 1-1 line of Golett and Golurk.  I would make sure to set up both Pokemon in this line on the bench, get at least 3 energy cards on Golurk before moving it to the active Pokemon spot, then use Wreck if there is a Stadium card in play and Golurk Hammer every other turn.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Furious Fists set.  I think this is an above average card because Golurk's HP is extremely high and it has two moves that do above average damage.  You'll have to be weary when using this card that it will take awhile to attack since the fastest move Golurk has is 3 energy cards and if you want to retreat Golurk you'll have to give up 4 energy cards.  Overall, I would give the  line of Golett and Golurk from this set a 3 out of 5 rating, I gave Gollet a 2 rating.  So I would recommend using this Pokemon family in a deck, but wouldn't use more than one of each card.

Golurk -- Plasma Blast Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Golurk from the Plasma Blast Pokemon Card Set.  Golurk is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  Golurk does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Iron Fist of Justice, this move requires two colorless energy cards to use and does 60 damage, however if you have an Team Plasma Pokemon in play the move does nothing.  Golurk's second move is called Shadow Punch, this move requires four energy cards, two each of psychic and colorless, and does 80 damage per turn.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Golurk is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Golett into play (I reviewed Golett from this set yesterday) and then evolve Golett into Golurk.  If you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Golett was an average basic Pokemon card but the thing that was holding it back some was its high retreat cost.  Well after reviewing this Golurk card you'll know that it has an even higher retreat cost than Golett did, so if you plan on using this Pokemon line in your deck, I would either include a lot of Switch trainers or only have a 1-1 line and make sure Golett and/or Golurk is set up on your bench before moving it into the active Pokemon spot, since both Pokemon have high hp, you can move either one into the active Pokemon spot as soon as they can attack.  If I were to use this Golurk can in a deck, I would make sure to have none or minimal Team Plasma Pokemon in it so I could utilize Golurk's Iron Fist of Justice move, because this move requires only colorless energy it can really be used in any type deck.  Shadow Punch is an average move, but I would primarily use Iron Fist of Justice for its quickness.  Of course if you think you'll need to retreat Golurk you'll have to put four energy cards on it anyways so then you can use Shadow Punch.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average stage 1 Pokemon card from the Plasma Blast set.  I definitely like that this card has an extremely high hp, and two moves both doing a good amount of damage.  But this card only gets an average rating from me because you need so many energy cards to retreat it, because of this you can't use this card solely for its Iron Fist of Justice move.  Overall the line of Golett and Golurk from the Plasma Blast set is an average line, it gets a 3 from me.

Golurk -- Dragons Exalted Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Golurk from the Dragons Exalted Pokemon Card Set.  Golurk is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  Golurk does not have an Ability but it does have two moves, its first move is called Devolution Punch and for three energy cards, two colorless and one psychic, this move does 60 damage plus it devolves your opponent's active opponent and makes them put their highest stage evolution card on their active Pokemon back into their hand.  Golurk's second move is called Ghost Hammer and for four energy cards, two each of psychic and colorless, this move does 90 damage, plus when your opponent attacks Golurk the next turn, Golurk no longer has a weakness.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Golurk is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll have to first put Golett on your bench and then evolve Golett into Golurk.  There is one Golett card in this set and I reviewed that card yesterday.  I would definitely keep Golett on the bench the entire time before evolving it into Golurk, even when I do evolve Golett into Golurk I would still keep Golurk on the bench until it gets at least three energy cards on it, once Golurk has three energy cards on it, and your opponent's active Pokemon is a stage 1 or stage 2 Pokemon, I would move Golurk into the active Pokemon spot and then use Devolution Punch.  The reason I would use Devolution Punch in this scenario is that by doing 60 damage and devolving the defending Pokemon I will more than likely be able to knock it out.  But if this isn't the scenario that you're in, I would use Ghost Hammer every turn because it does 30 more damage per turn than what Devolution Punch can do.  I would include Golurk in a psychic type deck, and include either a 2-2 or 1-1 line of Golett and Golurk in that deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average stage 1 Pokemon card.  Even though this card will take a while to use and has a high retreat cost, I still think both of Golurk's moves make this card better than average.  I like how one move can do major damage every turn and the other move can devolve your opponent's Pokemon and ruin their strategy in the meantime.  So I would definitely recommend using this card in a psychic type deck.
