Charmander -- Burning Shadows Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Charmander from the Burning Shadows set.  Charmander is a Basic, Fire type Pokemon card with a HP of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to Water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  This card does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move on this card is called Scratch, for one Colorless Energy card, this move does 10 damage.  Flame Tail is this card's second move, for two Energy cards, one each of Fire and Colorless, this move does 20 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Charmander is a Basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Charmeleon, and a Stage 2 evolution in Charizard, which I'll be reviewing the next couple of days, you'll more than likely want to use some of those Pokemon with this card, however, since I have not reviewed any of those cards yet, I will just act like Charmander does not have any evolution forms and that it will be used on its own.  On its own, if you're building a Fire type deck and are looking for a quick attacking, starter type Pokemon, this is a great card to use.  What I like best about this card is that it has an above average HP, so it may even stand a chance later in games.  I like how Scratch can use any type of Energy so you should be able to attack as soon as possible with this card, plus, you can do up to 20 damage a turn too.  So while this card isn't over-powering by any means, it is a solid, Basic Fire type Pokemon card, a card that is cheap to obtain, price wise, and one that can help in battle.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average to slightly above average Basic Pokemon card from the Burning Shadows set.  Other than only being able to do 20 damage per turn, this card is very good overall and makes a great start to the Charizard GX line.  This card has an above average HP, and two quick attacking moves, that both do damage.

Charmander -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Charmander from the XY Evolutions set.  Charmander is a basic, fire type Pokemon card with a HP of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Charmander does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Scratch and for one colorless energy card it does 10 damage.  Charmander's second move is called Ember and for two energy cards, one each of fire and colorless, this move does 30 damage, however you must discard an energy card attached to Charmander after using this move.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Charmander is a basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Charmeleon, and a Stage 2 evolution in Charizard, which I'll be reviewing the next couple of days, you'll more than likely want to use some of those Pokemon with this card, however, since I have not reviewed any of those cards yet, I will just act like Charmander does not have any evolution forms and that it will be used on its own.  On its own, this card works well as a starter type Pokemon in a fire type deck.  I would highly recommend using 4 Burning Energy special energy cards in any fire type deck you build, these energy cards act as fire type energy cards but when they are discarded you can return them to the Pokemon you discarded them from, meaning, you could use Charmander's Ember move every turn without having to add energy to it.  So, I would try and get this card into the active Pokemon spot the first turn of the game, use Scratch right away, and then after that use Ember.  On its own, I could see using up to 4 of these cards in a game, just so you can have a good Pokemon in the active Pokemon spot to start the game.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is easily the best card that I've reviewed from the Evolutions set so far and is a great starter type Pokemon in a fire type deck.  Without using Burning Energy cards, this card isn't as good, but with those energy cards, this card is very good early in the game and is a great way to start off this entire line, which ends with the dominant Charizard.

Charmander -- Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Charmander from the Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Set.  Charmander is a basic, fire type Pokemon card, with an hp of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Charmander does not have an Ability, but it does have two moves.  The first move is called Draw In which requires one fire energy card and allows you to attach 2 fire energy cards from your discard pile to Charmander.  Charmander's second move is called Flare which requires two energy cards, one each of fire and colorless, and does 20 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Charmander has a stage 1 evolution in Charmeleon, and a stage 2 evolution in Charizard, I would definitely recommend including both those two Pokemon in a deck with Charmander.  Charmander would be an okay starter Pokemon because it has above average hp and a move that does 20 damage, but I would keep Charmander in my hand until you have at least a couple of fire energy cards in your discard pile, that way, you can put Charmander on your bench one turn, move it into the active Pokemon spot the next, and get three energy cards on it in one turn if you use Draw In, then the next turn you can evolve it into Charmeleon.  However, if you can't evolve Charmander into Charmeleon right away, and have to move it into the active Pokemon spot I would use Flare every turn because it actually does damage, the only time I would use Draw In is if you are facing a weak Pokemon and by not doing any damage for a turn will greatly affect your next turn, or if you have a ton of energy cards in your discard pile and you need to get some back.  I could see using 1 of these cards in rare cases in a fire type deck, but like I said in the early part of this paragraph, I would most definitely recommend using this Card with Charmander's evolutions, not just on its own.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average basic Pokemon card.  Even though it requires two energy cards to first attack, its only attacking move is an average move, it does have a good hp, and Draw In can definitely help you get needed energy cards for Charmander's evolutions.  I would have liked to see Charmander have a less expensive retreat cost and Draw In not require any energy cards, but I guess this is only a basic Pokemon card after all and average at that.
