Caterpie -- Burning Shadows Pokemon Card Review

Caterpie Burning Shadows Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Caterpie from the Burning Shadows set.  This is the first card that I've reviewed from the Burning Shadows set.  Caterpie is a Basic, Grass type Pokemon card with a HP of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to Fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  This card does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move on this card is called Surprise Attack, for one Grass Energy card, this move does 20 damage, however you must flip a coin when using this attack, if you get a tails, the move does nothing.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Caterpie is a Basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Metapod, and a Stage 2 evolution in Butterfree, which I'll be reviewing the next couple of days, you'll more than likely want to use some of those Pokemon with this card, however, since I have not reviewed any of those cards yet, I will just act like Caterpie does not have any evolution forms and that it will be used on its own.  On its own, there is absolutely no reason to use this card in a deck.  Yes, 20 damage per turn for only one Energy card is decent, but considering there is only a 50% chance of doing damage when attacking, and considering the fact this card has a very low HP of only 50 and will have no use later in games, there is no use for this card in a deck, especially on its own and anywhere but on the Bench.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 0 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is about as poor of Basic Pokemon card out there.  Like I mentioned above, this card has a low HP, is very limited in having just one attack, and even its one attack is limited in being based off a coin flip.  Considering this is the first card that I've reviewed from Burning Shadows, this set has nowhere to go but up!

Caterpie -- Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Review

Caterpie Sun and Moon Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Caterpie from the Sun and Moon set.  This is the first card in the Sun and Moon set.  Caterpie is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with a HP of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Caterpie does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Nap, for one colorless energy card this move heals 20 damage from Caterpie.  Caterpie's second move is called Gnaw, for two colorless energy cards this move does 20 damage.

On its own, this card would be solid overall if it didn't have a below average HP, plus add in the fact that you need two energy cards on this card to do damage when attacking and this card is below average.  I do like that both of Caterpie's moves require colorless type energy cards meaning this card could be used in any type deck and potentially could only need 1 Double Colorless energy card to use either of its moves.  Ideally, you should pass on using this card on its own in a deck, but if you have to play it in your deck, use whichever move you have the necessary energy cards for and try and evolve it as quickly as possible.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Sun and Moon Pokemon card set.  Like I mentioned in the strategy section of this post, with a below average HP and a slow attacking move, this card isn't that good of a Basic Pokemon card overall, it does have some positives, like having two moves and requiring colorless energy cards for both moves, but I would recommend either using a different grass type Basic Pokemon in your deck, or using the full line of this evolution in your deck.

Caterpie -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Caterpie Evolutions Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Caterpie from the Evolutions set.  This is the first card that I'm reviewing from the Evolutions set, Evolutions is a Base Set reprint set, meaning, this set mainly includes cards originally printed in Base Set, but the cards have been updated, having higher HP and better damage when attacking, this set also includes reprints from sets that I've already reviewed, like XY, so I will be skipping those cards in this set.  Caterpie is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with a HP of 40.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Caterpie does not have an Ability and it only has one move called String Shot, for one grass energy card this move does 10 damage, plus it paralyzes the defending Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Caterpie is a basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Metapod, and a Stage 2 evolution in Butterfree (which isn't in this set), you'll more than likely want to use this card with its full evolution line, however, since I haven't reviewed Metapod yet, I will be considering this card on its own.  On its own, I can't recommend using this card in a deck, all because of its low HP, if this card had an average HP, like one of 60, I could see using this card as a starter type Pokemon since it could attack for only one energy and potentially paralyze the defending Pokemon every turn, giving you extra time to set up your own Pokemon.  So unless you can increase Caterpie's HP, do not use this card in a deck, and if you're using it with Caterpie's evolution forms, keep it on the bench.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Evolutions Pokemon card set.  Like I mentioned in the strategy section of this post, because of this card's low HP, it is really not usable on its own in a deck.  Outside of starting the game with this card in the active Pokemon spot, this card is an easy one hit knockout target.  So look elsewhere if looking for grass type Pokemon to use in your deck.

Caterpie -- Flashfire Pokemon Card Review

Caterpie Flashfire Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Caterpie from the Flashfire set.  This is the first card in the Flashfire set and the first of many Flashfire reviews to come.  Caterpie is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 40.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Caterpie's Ability is called Adaptive Evolution and says that you can evolve Caterpie as soon as it is put in play if you like.  The only move Caterpie has is called Bug Bite, this move requires one grass energy card and does 10 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Caterpie is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Metapod and a stage 2 evolution in Butterfree, which I'll be reviewing the next two days, you'll more than likely want to use those cards with this Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed those cards yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolutions.  So on its own, this card isn't that great.  I say this because you can't utilize its Ability and evolve it right away if you're using this card on its own.  And if you can't evolve it, this card is quite limited in just being able to use Bug Bite.  This move isn't all that bad, but with only 40 hp on the card, you'll get knocked out quite quick later in games.  So I would not recommend using this card in a deck on its own.  If you choose to, make sure to not use very many of these and use Bug Bite as soon as possible, and retreat Caterpie as soon as you get a Pokemon set up on your bench.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Flashfire set and puts a bad taste in your mouth regarding cards from this set.  But really, the only thing bad about this card is its extremely low hp, otherwise this card's Ability is good as well as its only move, it is just limited.
