Mega Blastoise EX -- Pokemon X and Y Card Review

Mega Blastoise EX Pokemon X and Y
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Mega Blastoise EX from the X and Y Pokemon Card Set.  Mega Blastoise EX is a Mega Evolution, EX, water type Pokemon card with an hp of 220. It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Mega Blastoise does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Hydro Bombard, this move requires three water energy cards and does 120 damage plus 30 damage to 2 of your opponent's benched Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
Before I start with the strategy, remember that this card is a Mega Evolution card and an EX card so if you use this card in your deck and it gets knocked out, your opponent gets to take two prize cards instead of one and when you evolve an EX card into its Mega Evolution, your turn ends, you cannot do anything else.  So knowing these things, you'll always want to use Mega Evolution cards with caution, but with that being said, if you are building a water type deck I would definitely recommend putting in 1 each of Blastoise EX and Mega Blastoise EX.  Blastoise EX isn't the greatest of EX cards so I would make sure and set up this line on the bench, evolve Blastoise into its mega evolution then get three water energy cards on it.  When in the active Pokemon spot you're only choice is to use Hydro Bombard every single turn.  This card would fit perfectly in a spread damage type deck, either a dual type deck or a single type deck.  Look for other water Pokemon cards that spread damage around, cards that have moves like Surf which not only attack the defending Pokemon but do 10 damage to all your opponent's Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  This card is definitely one of the most powerful Pokemon cards that I've ever reviewed and it is only my 2nd mega evolution card at that.  The reason this card doesn't get a 5 from me is that the card only has one move, but the one move it does has is very powerful and can not only do above average damage to the opposing Pokemon in the active spot, but it can destroy most benched Pokemon in two turns.  So if you're building a water type deck, I would definitely recommend using this EX line, overall I would give the line a 4 out of 5 rating, your deck will be awesome with this line in it.

Blastoise EX Full Art -- Pokemon X and Y Review

Blastoise EX Full Art Pokemon X and Y
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Blastoise EX from the X and Y Pokemon Card Set.  Blastoise EX Full Art is a basic, EX, water type Pokemon card with an hp of 180. It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Blastoise does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Rapid Spin, for two colorless energy cards this move does 30 damage and not only must you switch Blastoise EX with one of your benched Pokemon, but your opponent must do that same.  Blastoise's second move is called Splash Bomb, this move requires three water energy cards and does 120 damage, however if you get a tails when you flip a coin, Blastoise does 30 damage to itself.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
Before I start with the strategy, remember that this card is an EX card so if you use this card in your deck and it gets knocked out, your opponent gets to take two prize cards instead of one.  Also, the X and Y set is the first set to have Mega Evolution cards, so this Blastoise card does have a Mega evolution which I'll be reviewing tomorrow and should probably be used with this card.  But since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I will act as though I plan on using this card on its own in a deck.  The reason most people use EX cards is for their power and high hp, and this Blastoise card definitely doesn't disappoint, so if you're building a water type deck, I would definitely consider using one of these in that deck, I would get three water energy cards on Blastoise on the bench and then use Splash Bomb every turn you can in the active Pokemon spot.  I wouldn't use Rapid Spin until Blastoise is about to feint and then instead of retreating use this move instead.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average EX Pokemon card from the X and Y set.  Even though this card has 180 hp and can do 120 damage per turn, this is just an average card in my opinion because the first move Blastoise has isn't that great and really can only be used once, and Splash Bomb does a good amount of damage but 30 damage can add up quickly on Blastoise.  So, if you want powerful cards in your water type deck, this card would definitely fit that bill, but it definitely isn't that great.

Blastoise -- Plasma Blast Pokemon Card Review

Blastoise Plasma Blast Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Blastoise from the Plasma Blast Pokemon Card Set.  Blastoise is a stage 2, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 140.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  Blastoise's Ability is called Deluge and says that as often as you'd like during your turn you may attach a water energy card from your hand to one of your Pokemon.  Besides the Ability, Blastoise just has one move called Hydro Pump, this move requires four colorless energy cards and does 60 damage plus 10 more damage for each water energy card attached to Blastoise.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Blastoise is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Squirtle into play and then evolve it into Wartortle before you can evolve Wartortle into Blastoise, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last couple of days.  The first two Pokemon in this line from Plasma Blast aren't the greatest, so if you're looking to build a deck that includes Blastoise you may want to look in other Black and White series sets for Squirtle and Wartortle cards.  With that being said, the main reason you'll want to use this entire line at all is for Blastoise's Deluge ability, because this is an Ability, you can utilize it on the bench, so you'll never even have to move any of Blastoise's evolutions into the active Pokemon spot.  Because of this, if you're building a water type deck I would try and include a 2-1-1 line of Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise into your deck.  I would for sure keep Blastoise on the bench if possible and then make sure to have plenty of energy cards in my deck and to include trainer cards that would get the energy cards into your hand, that way, you could attach tons of energy cards each turn to your benched Pokemon and set them all up in one or two turns.  Once you've set up all of your other Pokemon, if you have enough energy cards left I could definitely see setting up Blastoise with four water energy cards and thus being able to do 100 damage per turn with Hydro Pump.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average stage 2 Pokemon card from the Plasma Blast Pokemon card set.  Disregarding the first two Pokemon in the Blastoise line, I think this card is a very good stage 2 Pokemon card.  I like that its only move can be used with any types of energy as well as Blastoise's Ability will greatly reduce the time needed to set up your own Pokemon.  However, if you consider Blastoise's high retreat cost with the poor prior evolutions in this line, I probably wouldn't build a deck around this line, because of this, I wouldn't give the entire line of Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise a 3 out of 5 rating.  Squirtle received a 2, Wartortle a 1, and Blastoise a 4.

Blastoise -- Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Review

Blastoise Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Blastoise from the Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Set.  Blastoise is a stage 2, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 140.  Blastoise is the stage 2 evolution of Wartortle, and before that Squirtle, both of those Pokemon I have reviewed the past couple of days, and both of those Pokemon are in this set.  Blastoise has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  Blastoise's Ability is called Deluge and it says that as often you like during your turn you may attach a water energy card from your hand to one of your Pokemon.  Besides the Ability, Blastoise just has one move called Hydro Pump which requires four colorless energy cards and does 60 damage plus 10 more damage for each water energy card attached to this Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Blastoise is a stage 2 Pokemon, you'll have to first get Squirtle and then Wartortle into play.  I would recommend evolving this line on the bench, Squirtle's Ability even encourages it to be kept on the bench.  Once you get Blastoise on your bench I would use its Ability as often as possible since it is very good, and when you get four water energy cards on Blastoise I would move it into the active Pokemon spot and use Hydro Pump every turn, doing 100 damage per turn if you have four water energy cards attached to it.  I would put this card in a deck with a lot of Pokemon that require a ton of energy cards and can do a ton of damage, then I would make sure to include many energy cards, more than normal, and trainers to evolve Pokemon quickly.  That way you'll always have a good amount of energy cards in your hand, and evolved Pokemon in play, so make sure to get Blastoise on your bench as soon as possible, and you can power up all your powerful Pokemon at once, in no time at all.  I would definitely recommend building a deck around Blastoise and would use a 3-2-1 or 3-2-2 line of Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise in a mostly water type deck.  I would make the deck mostly water type because Blastoise's Ability makes water Pokemon and Pokemon that require water energy cards to attack so fast.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an awesome stage 2 Pokemon card that I would definitely build a deck around.  It has a good hp, an amazing Ability that can set up your deck extremely fast, and a great move that can do 100+ damage per turn with no problems.  The only bad thing about this card is that it has a high retreat cost, but hopefully once you get Blastoise into that active Pokemon spot you won't have to retreat it for quite awhile.  Overall, I don't think Squirtle and Wartortle are very good, so I would only give this line a 4 out of 5 rating, but it is definitely worth it to stick it out using Squirtle and Wartortle because when you get to Blastoise it will definitely be worth it.
