Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Slowbro from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set. Slowbro is a Stage 1, Psychic type Pokemon card, with a HP of 110. It has a x2 weakness to Psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three Colorless Energy card retreat cost. Slowbro does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move on this card is called Amnesia, for one Colorless Energy card this move does 20 damage, plus it makes your opponent's Active Pokemon unable to use one of their moves during their next turn, the move is of your choosing. Facade is the name of the second move on this card, for three Energy cards, one Psychic and two Colorless, this move does 50 damage plus 80 more damage if the defending Pokemon is either Burned or Poisoned.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Slowbro is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Slowpoke into play (I reviewed Slowpoke from this set yesterday) and then evolve Slowpoke into Slowbro. If you read yesterday's review of Slowpoke, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card overall. Although it could do damage when attacking for only one Energy card, its second move was underwhelming, and with a high retreat cost, it couldn't be used as a starter type Pokemon. Knowing this about Slowpoke, and also knowing Slowking is available in the Burning Shadows set, this card is similar to Slowpoke in that it has two moves, but a very high retreat cost, so if you do use this line in a deck, you're going to want to figure out a way to retreat these Pokemon for free, with either a Trainer or Ability. Potentially, you could keep Slowbro set up on the Bench, then switch it into the Active Pokemon spot to prevent a powerful Pokemon's attack, like a GX move, or a move on an EX card, other than that, you could switch it back and forth with a card that Burns or Poisons the defending Pokemon so you could do 130 damage a turn every turn with Facade.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card overall. Other than having a high HP, this card is average overall. It does have an above average HP, and two decent moves, one that is more defensive, in Amnesia, and one that can do major damage in Facade. Together with Slowpoke from this set, I would give the two cards a 3 out of 5 rating, as long as you can retreat these cards for free, they are worth considering when deck building.
