Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Tentacruel from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set. Tentacruel is a Stage 1, Water type Pokemon card, with a HP of 110. It has a x2 weakness to Grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two Colorless Energy card retreat cost. Tentacruel does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. Poison Sting is the first move that this card has, for two Colorless Energy cards this move does 30 damage, plus it Poisons the defending Pokemon. Seething Tentacles is Tentacruel's second move, for three Colorless Energy cards, this move does 40 damage, plus either 40 more damage if you get a heads when flipping a coin, or paralysis for the defending Pokemon if you flip a tails.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Tentacruel is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Tentacool into play (I reviewed Tentacool from this set yesterday) and then evolve Tentacool into Tentacruel. If you read yesterday's review of Tentacool, you'll know that I thought it was an average Basic Pokemon card overall. The card had a solid HP, low retreat cost, and a move that required one Colorless Energy card and did 10 damage. So knowing this about Tentacool and looking at this Tentacruel card, you could definitely start the game with Tentacool in the Active Pokemon spot, use it for a turn, then evolve it into Tentacruel the next, allowing you to Poison the defending Pokemon and do 30 damage the second turn of the game. One thing I do like about this line is that both cards only require Colorless Energy cards to attack, meaning the line can be used in any type deck. I would recommend this card more if you're already building a deck that includes Pokemon that inflict special conditions, this Tentacruel card would fit right in.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set. Like I mentioned above, I think this card is solid overall, it does have a great HP, and two good moves, both doing a fair amount of damage. The only downside to this card is it is a little slow on the attack, and could end up doing below average damage when using Seething Tentacles. Together with Tentacool from this set, I would give both Pokemon a 3 out of 5 rating, they make for a solid line overall.
