Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Sharpedo from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set. Sharpedo is a Stage 1, Water type Pokemon card, with a HP of 90. It has a x2 weakness to Grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a free retreat cost. Sharpedo does not have an Ability and it only has one move. The only move on this card is called Jet Headbutt, for two Energy cards, one each of Water and Colorless, this move does 70 damage.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Sharpedo is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Carvanha into play (I reviewed Carvanha from this set yesterday) and then evolve Carvanha into Sharpedo. If you read yesterday's review of Carvanha, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card overall. The card had a low HP and was very limited in what it could do, with only one move that could do 10 damage. So knowing this about Carvanha and looking at this Sharpedo card, because Sharpedo has a free retreat cost, it is best to set this card up on the Bench, and potentially have multiple Pokemon with free retreat costs, that way you can move these cards in and out of the Active Pokemon spot without having to discard any Energy. Once Sharpedo is set up, it is a very powerful attacker and does not require much Energy to attack. So, if you're building a Water type deck and looking for some power, I would recommend using this line in your deck, at least a 1-1 line.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set. Although this card is very limited, in only having one move, because its one move is well above average and it has a free retreat cost, I am a fan of this card and think it should be used in decks. Together with Carvanha from this set, I would give these two cards a 3 out of 5 rating.
