Avalugg -- Steam Siege Pokemon Card Review

Avalugg Steam Siege Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Avalugg from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card Set.  Avalugg is a stage 1, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 120. It has a x2 weakness to metal type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  Avalugg does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Crunch, for two colorless energy cards, this move does 30 damage, plus it allows you to discard an energy card from your opponent's active Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin.  Avalugg's second move is called Melting Floe and for four water energy cards this move allows you to discard the top 3 cards of your deck for each water energy you discard in this way, discard the top 3 cards of your opponent's deck.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Avalugg is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Bergmite into play (I reviewed Bergmite from this set yesterday) and then evolve Bergmite into Avalugg.  If you read yesterday's review of Bergmite, you'll know that I thought it was an average card overall, one that had a slightly above average HP, and two moves, neither move being that great.  So knowing this about Bergmite and looking at this Avalugg card, the only way I would use a 1-1 line of this family in a deck is if your deck was built around making your opponent lose the battle by having them run out of cards.  That way, Melting Floe would be a critical move to help achieve this goal.  If this wasn't part of your stratgy, doing 30 damage a turn with a Stage 1 evolution isn't ideal and I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a slightly below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Steam Siege set.  I do like that this card has a high HP and two moves.  But like I mentioned above, just doing 30 damage a turn won't cut it, and if you don't plan on having a strategy of your opponent losing by running out of cards, it doesn't make sense to use this card at all, especially when it has such a high retreat cost.  Together with Bergmite from this set, I would give these two cards a 2 out of 5 rating.
