Ponyta -- Steam Siege Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Ponyta from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card Set.  Ponyta is a basic, fire type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Ponyta does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Returning Flames, for one colorless energy card this move allows you to put 2 fire energy cards from your discard pile back into your hand.  Ponyta's second move is called Live Coal, and for one fire energy card this move does 10 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Ponyta is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Rapidash, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, this card could be very valuable to a fire type deck, not only as a starter type Pokemon, but as a Pokemon you can put in later in games to retrieve fire energy from the discard pile.  So if you need a Pokemon that can attack for one energy card or have a Pokemon that discards an energy each time it attacks, this is definitely a card to consider in a deck.  I could see using at least 1 of these cards in a fire type deck, especially if you don't plan on using an Burning Energy in your deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Rapidash, this is an average Basic Pokemon card.  Really, other than only being able to do 10 damage maximum, this card is very solid overall, with an average HP, low retreat cost, and two good moves, making this card usable during the duration of a battle.
