Tangela -- Steam Siege Pokemon Card Review

Tangela Steam Siege Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Tangela from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card Set.  This is the first card that I'll be reviewing from the Steam Siege set.  Tangela is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Tangela does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Slam, for two energy cards, one each of grass and colorless, this move does 30 damage times the number of heads you get when flipping two coins.  Tangela's second move is called Mega Drain, for three energy cards, two grass and one colorless, this move does 40 damage, plus it heals 20 damage from Tangela.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Tangela is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Tangrowth, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, I would not recommend using this card in a deck.  The main reason I say this is because most times when looking at Basic Pokemon, you want to answer the question of could I use this card early on in the game, but the answer to this is probably no.  Even though this card has two moves, both moves are under-powered and you need to waste three energy cards if you want to move Tangela out of the active Pokemon spot.  So unless you're using this card to get to Tangrowth, do not use this card in a deck on its own.  If you have to use this card in a deck, a Trick Coin trainer will help you with Slam, giving you a better chance at at least being able to do some damage, and a Switch trainer will avoid having to discard 3 energy cards when retreating.  But like I said, neither move on this card is that great, so you should never want to have this card in the active Pokemon spot.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Tangrowth, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Steam Siege set.  Even though this card is a Basic Pokemon, it is more similar to an under-powered Stage 1 card, it has a solid HP, but the card is extremely slow on the attack, has a high retreat cost, and just can't do that much damage for the amount of energy required.  So I cannot recommend using Tangela in a deck on its own.

  1. It evolves when it levels up while knowing the move ancient power, which tangela learns at lv 38 in gen 6

  2. Tangela can evolve at any level* as long as it knows Ancient Power.

*However, its level must be higher than 38, as this is the level at which Tangela learns Ancient Power (it cannot learn it by TM or as an egg move).

  3. Could evolve at level 33, 38, or 40 depending which game you played, on the off chance you catch a wild tangela that already learned Ancient Power, the next level up would trigger the evolution.

  4. Can level up at any level but it needs to know ancient power which it gets at 38.
