Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Ferrothorn from the BREAKpoint Pokemon Card Set. Ferrothorn is a stage 1, metal type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100. It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to psychic type Pokemon, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost. Ferrothorn does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Metal Claw, for two energy cards, one each of metal and colorless, this move does 40 damage. Ferrothorn's second move is called Spike Leash and for three energy cards, two colorless and one metal, this move does 10 damage to each of your opponent's Pokemon for each colorless energy card in their retreat cost.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Ferrothorn is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Ferroseed into play (I reviewed Ferroseed from this set yesterday) and then evolve Ferroseed into Ferrothorn. If you read yesterday's review of Ferroseed, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Pokemon card, mainly because it was slow on the attack, couldn't do any damage when attacking, and had a high retreat cost, however it could hold its own in the active Pokemon spot. So knowing this about Ferroseed and looking at this Ferrothorn card, if you're building a metal type deck or a spread attack type deck, this card is a shoe-in, since Spike Lash is an incredible move. So use a 1-1 line of this Pokemon family, get three energy cards on Ferrothorn, then use Spike Lash every turn when in the active Pokemon spot. Most cards that spread damage around can do 10 damage to each of the opponent's Pokemon, however this card can do way more damage, potentially up to 40 damage for each Pokemon your opponent has in play. So again, if you're building more specifically, a spread attack type deck, definitely use this card.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKpoint set. A card that is extremely powerful in a spread attack type deck, and one that can be set up on the bench and played later in games. Outside of having an amazing move, it does have one average move, a solid HP, but a very high retreat cost. Overall, I would recommend using this line in a deck, and combined give Ferroseed and Ferrothorn from this set a 3 out of 5 rating.
