Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Ducklett from the BREAKpoint Pokemon Card Set. Ducklett is a basic, water type Pokemon card with an hp of 60. It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Ducklett does not have an Ability and it only has one move. This move is called Lunge and for one colorless energy card this move does 20 damage, however when using this move you must flip a coin and if you get a tails the move does nothing.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Ducklett is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Swanna, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon. However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution. So, on its own, I cannot recommend using this card in a deck, the main reason being that this card only has one move and the only move it has requires a coin flip to determine if the move can do damage at all. So it is never a good strategy to hedge your starter type Pokemon on coin flips for doing damage. If you attach a Trick Coin trainer card to this Pokemon, doing 20 damage for one energy card isn't a bad move at all, but I would much rather do 10 damage a turn every turn then have a 50 percent shot at doing 20 damage a turn. So unless you are desperate when building a deck, look elsewhere for a Basic Pokemon to use.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating. So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Swanna, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card. Usually I give Pokemon like this with only one move that is coin flip based a 1 out of 5 rating, but besides having a 50 percent shot at doing damage, this card is very average overall with a solid HP and a low retreat cost, but again, definitely look elsewhere for a Basic Pokemon to use in your deck.
