Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Gengar from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set. Gengar is a stage 2, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130. It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a free retreat cost. Gengar does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Sinister Fog, for one psychic energy card this move poisons the defending Pokemon and puts one damage counter on each of your opponent's benched Pokemon. Gengar's second move is called Creep Show, for two energy cards, one each of colorless and psychic, knocks out the defending Pokemon if that Pokemon has 3 or more damage counters on it.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Gengar is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Gastly into play and then evolve it into Haunter before you can evolve Haunter into Gengar, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last two days. If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that I thought both Gastly and Haunter were below average Basic Pokemon cards, both cards had below average HP and neither card could do any damage when attacking, both only had the potential to inflict special conditions. So knowing this about the first two Pokemon in this line and looking at Gengar, if you're building a psychic type deck, there is no reason to not use this line in your deck, keeping the entire line on the bench until you get Gengar into play. Once Gengar gets into play, I would recommend moving it into the active Pokemon spot every time the defending Pokemon has 30 damage on it or more, thus being able to knock it out with Creep Show right away. So ideally, this card would be used in a spread attack deck, that way, it gives you a much better shot at having the active Pokemon have 30 damage on it when it is moved to the active Pokemon spot. I would only use a 1-1-1 line of this Pokemon family in a deck, but it would be a very powerful line to use.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is an extremely powerful Stage 2 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set and one that should be used if building a spread attack or a psychic type deck. It is just so powerful being able to knock out any active Pokemon if it has 30 damage or more that it can essentially one hit Mega EX cards after having 30 damage on them. Together with Gastly and Haunter from this set, I would give this line a 4 out of 5 rating still, just because Gengar is so good.
