Kingler -- Phantom Forces Pokemon Card Review

Kingler Phantom Forces Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Kingler from the Phantom Forces Pokemon Card Set.  Kingler is a stage 1, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Kingler does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Guard Claw, for one water energy card this move does 20 damage, plus any damage done to Kingler during your opponent's next turn is reduced by 20.  Kingler's second move is called Crabhammer, and for four water energy cards, this move does 100 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Kingler is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Krabby into play (I reviewed Krabby from this set yesterday) and then evolve Krabby into Kingler.  If you read yesterday's review of Krabby, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon card, but it did have some positives on it, like a higher HP, and two moves, the card just had too high of retreat cost and neither move it had was the great.  So knowing this about Krabby and looking at this Kingler card, I could definitely see myself using a 1-1 line of Crabby and Kingler in a mainly water type deck.  I would try my hardest to get this line set up on the bench and get four energy cards on it so I could use Crabhammer every turn.  If I had to put Kingler into the active Pokemon spot early, of course I would use Guard Claw, but the later in the game this happens, the more likely Kingler will get knocked out before it can even use Crabhammer.  The reason I would only put one of these Kingler cards in a deck maximum is because of how slow Crabhammer is to use and how many energy cards must be discarded to retreat it.  But you can't go wrong doing 100 damage a turn.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Phantom Forces set.  Even though this card has an above average HP and two good moves, I am still only giving Kingler an average rating just because it requires so many energy cards to do major damage and with that many energy cards required it really should have a higher HP.  But again, I would recommend using this Pokemon family in a water type deck, and give Krabby and Kingler combined a 3 out of 5 rating.  Individually Krabby was a 2, Kingler a 3.
