Accelgor -- Furious Fists Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Accelgor from the Furious Fists Pokemon Card Set.  Accelgor is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a free retreat cost.  Accelgor does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Raid, for one colorless energy card this move does 20 damage, plus if you evolved Shelmet into Accelgor during this turn, Accelgor's Raid move does 60 damage total instead of 20.  Accelgor's second move is called Afterimage Strike, this move requires two energy cards, one each of grass and colorless, and does 40 damage, plus during your opponent's next turn, any damage done to Accelgor is prevented if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Accelgor is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Shelmet into play (I reviewed Shelmet from this set yesterday) and then evolve Shelmet into Accelgor.  If you read yesterday's review of Shelmet, you'll know that I thought that card would have been a very solid Pokemon card except for its very high retreat cost made the card pretty much unusable on its own, since the retreat cost on Shelmet was two energy cards higher than the cost of the only move it had.  So knowing this about Shelmet, if you make sure and use that card with this Accelgor card, I would definitely recommend the Shelmet card because you can put it into the active Pokemon spot to start the game, do up to 20 damage right away, evolve Shelmet into Accelgor in the active Pokemon spot, use Raid one turn and do 60 damage, then use Afterimage Strike every other turn and do 40 damage to the defending Pokemon and possibly prevent all damage after that, giving you plenty of time to set up your benched Pokemon.  I would probably use either a 1-1 or a 2-2 line of this Pokemon family in a grass type deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Furious Fists set.  The first thing I really like about this card is the free retreat cost, especially since Shelmet has such a high one.  Second, I like the two moves that Accelgor has, both do above average damage and both do a little more than just attack.  So overall, I would give the line of Shelmet and Accelgor from this set a 3 out of 5 rating, which is an average rating, but this 3 rating is very close to a 4.  Individually I have Shelmet a 2 rating and Accelgor a 4.
