Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Basculin from the Emerging Powers Pokemon Card Set. There are actually two Basculin cards in the Emerging Powers set, one common and one uncommon version, today I'll be reviewing the uncommon Basculin card. Basculin is a basic, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80. It has a x2 weakness to electric type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Basculin doesn't have an Ability, but it does have two moves, the first move is called Tackle which does 10 damage for one colorless energy card. Basculin's second move is called Splatter and for two energy cards, one each of colorless and water, it does 30 damage to one of your opponent's benched Pokemon.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, this is a perfect basic Pokemon card to have in a spread damage type deck. I know there are many water type Pokemon cards out there that can do spread damage and this is a great card to start the game with. Get Basculin into the active Pokemon spot early, it can attack quickly with Tackle and then as soon as you get two energy cards on it, I would use Splatter and try to do 30 damage to all of your opponent's benched Pokemon, that way when you get a Pokemon that can do let's say 20 damage to each of your opponent's benched Pokemon at a time, you can knock out 3 or 4 Pokemon at the same time in 2 or 3 turns. Because Basculin is a basic Pokemon, I would suggest using 2 or 3 in a spread damage type deck, like I said Basculin is a great starter card, and if you get in trouble it has a high hp for a basic Pokemon so it should last a bit, plus it has a low retreat cost so you can move it out of the active Pokemon spot easy enough too.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating. It isn't often that I give perfect ratings to cards that are basic and are not rare cards, but I really like this card, especially for a starter card in a deck, I love how it can do 10 damage right away and then 30 damage to almost any Pokemon in play for only two energy cards, plus it is a basic Pokemon so it won't take up many spots at all in your deck because you don't have to wait for it to evolve. If you're building a water type deck I would highly recommend using this card in it.

ReplyDelete^That's a tad harsh.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't rate this card 5/5, perhaps 4/5, since, as you mentioned but Popey clearly did not realize, this card is a basic so you can get it out and start hitting quickly.
"it's a freaking Basculin"
Basculin is awesome! The Nest Destinies Basculin is almost as good as this one.
