Mareanie -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Mareanie from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set.  Mareanie is a Basic, Water type Pokemon card with a HP of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to Grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Mareanie does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move on this card is called Bail Out, for one Colorless Energy card this move allows you to move a Pokemon from your discard pile back into your hand.  Mareanie's second move is called Rain Splash, for one Water Energy card this move does 10 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Mareanie is a Basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Toxapex GX, which I'll be reviewing in a few weeks since it is a Psychic type Pokemon, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, this card could certainly be used as a starter type Pokemon in a deck since it has two moves that both only require one Energy card to use.  Bail Out is a very helpful move that can make it seem like you have more than 4 of a certain Pokemon in your deck.  Rain Splash is a pretty standard move for a card like this, doing 10 damage for one Energy card.  Although this card isn't spectacular, it can be used in a deck on its own.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Toxapex GX, this is an average Basic Pokemon card overall.  This card is pretty much average throughout, with an average HP, low retreat cost, and two moves, both quick on the attack, but both doing little.  Although this card is average overall, I would recommend looking elsewhere when building a Water type deck.

Wishiwashi GX -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Wishiwashi GX from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set.  Wishiwashi GX is a Basic, Water type Pokemon card, with a HP of 210.  It has a x2 weakness to Lightning type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Wishiwashi GX does not have an Ability but it does have three moves.  The first move that this card has is called Water Gun, for one Water Energy card this move does 20 damage.  This card's second move is called Torrential Vortex, for five Energy cards, three Water and two Colorless, this move does 120 damage, plus it allows you to discard a Special Energy card attached to your opponent's Active Pokemon.  This card's GX move is called Blue Surge GX, for five Energy cards, three Water and two Colorless, this move does 220 damage, however after using this move you must move all Energy cards attached to this card to your Benched Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, first off, the way a Pokemon GX works is that it is used instead of a regular Wishiwashi card, so you do not need to first play Wishiwashi and then evolve it into Wishiwashi GX.  In play, only one GX move can be used during the entire game, and once a Pokemon GX is knocked out, two prize cards are taken instead of one.  With this specific GX card, you could certainly use this card with Wishiwashi from this set, since the Ability on that card allows you to move a Wishiwashi GX from your hand to replace the regular Wishiwashi in play.  With that being said, unless you're fine on spending a very long time to set up a Pokemon, I would not use either card in a deck.  Ideally you would put this card on your Bench, get five Energy cards on it, then use Blue Surge GX once, moving all Energy cards to your Benched Pokemon, then retreating Wishiwashi GX during your next turn with a Trainer.  Because this card is so slow on the attack, there is no reason to use this card for Water Gun, and really no reason to use more than one of these in a deck at a time.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average GX Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set.  Like I stated above, this card is just too slow on the attack to be used heavily in a deck.  While the GX move on this card is solid, doing major damage, it can really only be used once then you have to not only set up the card again, but you can no longer use the GX move.  So if you're looking for some power for a Water type deck, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Wishiwashi -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Wishiwashi from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set.  Wishiwashi is a Basic, Water type Pokemon card with a HP of 30.  Wishiwashi has a x2 weakness to Lightning type Pokemon, no resistance type, and free retreat cost.  Wishiwashi's Ability is called Schooling, it says once per turn you may switch this Wishiwashi card with a Wishiwashi GX card in your hand, all cards attached to Wishiwashi, damage counters, and Special Conditions are transferred onto the new Pokemon.  Besides the Ability, Wishiwashi just has one move called Sharpshooting, for one Water Energy card this move does 10 damage to one of your opponent's Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Wishiwashi is a Basic Pokemon card with no evolution forms, you'll only have to use this card in a deck if you want to use Wishiwashi.  With that being said, there is really no reason to use this card in a deck if you aren't already using Wishiwashi GX in your deck, because if you aren't, the Ability on this card is useless, plus, you never want to put a Pokemon with only 30 HP into the Active Pokemon spot for long.  So, if you are using Wishiwashi GX in your deck, you could put this card on your Bench in place of it, then move it to the Active Pokemon if you know you have Wishiwashi GX in your hand, this way, you could potentially prevent your opponent from doing extra damage because you are waiting to use a GX card until the last possible second.  Although Sharpshooting on this card is a solid move, because this card has such a low HP, it still isn't recommended.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  So, in my opinion, solely based on its low HP, I am giving this card a below average rating, do not use it.  The only scenario to use this card is with Wishiwashi GX, if you're using this card with that one, I would give it a 3 out of 5 rating, it is still risky using a card with such a low HP in your deck.

Alomomola -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Alomomola from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set.  Alomomola is a Basic, Water type Pokemon card with a HP of 110.  Alomomola has a x2 weakness to Grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Alomomola does not have an Ability, but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Borne Ashore, for one Colorless Energy card this move allows you to move a Basic Pokemon from either player's discard pile to their Bench.  Hydro Splash is this card's second move, for three Energy cards, one Water and two Colorless, this move does 60 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Alomomola is a Basic Pokemon card with no evolution forms, you'll only have to use this card in a deck if you want to use Alomomola.  So knowing this, you may try and want to put one of these cards in many of the decks you're building.  You can just keep this card on the Bench and then use its Borne Ashore move later in games, either to get a Pokemon from your own deck back into play, or, to put a weak, Basic Pokemon of your opponent's back in play.  If you're building a spread attack type deck, Borne Ashore is even better.  Other than this move, Hydro Splash does do average damage for the amount of Energy cards it requires, but there are certainly better moves out there to use.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  So, in my opinion, this is an average Basic Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set.  Other than having a somewhat high retreat cost, both moves on this card are at least average, add in a high HP, and this card definitely deserves some consideration when deck building.
