Tranquill -- Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Tranquill from the Roaring Skies Pokemon Card set.  Tranquill is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Tranquill does not have an Ability or an Ancient Trait and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Fly, for two colorless energy cards this move does 40 damage, however when using this move you must flip a coin, if the coin is a heads all effects of attacks done to Tranquill during your opponent's next turn are prevented, if the coin is a tails, the move does nothing.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Tranquill is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Pidove into play (I reviewed Pidove from this set yesterday) and then evolve Pidove into Tranquill.  Tranquill does have a stage 2 evolution in Unfezant that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Tranquill is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review Pidove from this set you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card.  There really wasn't anything wrong with it, having an average HP, low retreat cost, and two moves, it was just the fact that the only move that could do damage on the card required two energy cards instead of one.  So knowing this about Pidove and looking at this Tranquill card, I would highly recommend not using either of these Pokemon in a deck without Unfezant.  I would specifically hinder against using Tranquill at all because it is so poor and may not be able to do anything at all if you have some bad luck flipping a coin.  So stay away from this card if you can, and if you have to use it with Unfezant, keep this line on the bench until you can evolve it to its Stage 2 form.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a very poor Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Roaring Skies set and one I would never recommend using in a deck.  Starting off, this card has a really poor HP, then the only thing this card can do is attack, and the one move it has is based off of a coin flip, and if you flip a tails the move does nothing at all.  So paired with Pidove from this set, I can't give these two cards higher than a 1 out of 5 rating, they are very poor.

Pidove -- Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Pidove from the Roaring Skies set.  Pidove is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Pidove does not have an Ability or an Ancient Trait but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Homing Pidove, for one colorless energy card this move allows you to look at the top card of your deck and then if you choose, you may shuffle your deck.  Pidove's second move is called Gust and for two colorless energy cards this move does 20 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Pidove is a basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Tranquill, and a Stage 2 evolution in Unfezant, which I'll be reviewing the next couple of days, you'll more than likely want to use some of those Pokemon with this card, however, since I have not reviewed any of those cards yet, this post will only consider Pidove on its own.  So, on its own, I wouldn't recommend using this card in a deck, mainly because it is a bit slower on the attack, requiring two energy cards to do any damage to the defending Pokemon and the fact if this card is sitting on your bench it can't do anything.  The first move that Pidove has, Homing Pidove can easily be replaced by a Trainer card.  But if you're in a pinch and need a starter type Pokemon in your deck, this one isn't the worst one out there since it has two moves and a decent HP and low retreat cost.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a slightly below average Basic Pokemon card from the Roaring Skies set.  I like that this card has two moves, a solid HP, and a low retreat cost, but like I said in the strategy section of this post, Pidove's first move can be replaced by a trainer card, and preferably the move that does damage on this card would have required only one energy card instead of two.

Shaymin EX -- Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Shaymin EX and Shaymin EX Full Art from the Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Set.  Shaymin EX is a basic, EX, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 110. It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Shaymin's Ability is called Set Up and says that when you play this Pokemon from your hand onto your Bench you may draw cards until you have 6 cards in your hand.  Besides the Ability, Shaymin just has one move called Sky Return and for two colorless energy cards does 30 damage and returns Shaymin EX along with all cards attached to it back to your hand.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, because Shaymin EX is a basic Pokemon card you won't need to use any other cards with this card.  But remember, because this card is an EX card, if this card is knocked out, two prize cards are taken instead of one.  So knowing this about Shaymin EX, the strategy you want to use with this card is similar to the one I talked about yesterday with Mega Rayquaza EX.  You want to use up to 4 of these Shaymin EX cards in a deck and also have the Sky Field Stadium card in your deck, you would then play the Sky Field card allowing you to have 8 benched Pokemon, use all of your Shaymin EX cards by putting them on your bench and drawing the necessary cards using its Ability, then when you've played all of your Shaymin EX, use a different Stadium card and discard the Shaymin EX cards from your bench.  There really is no point in putting this card into the active Pokemon spot because you don't want to risk it getting knocked out in one move but if you do have two energy cards on it for some reason, you can definitely use Sky Return and move it back to your hand and play it on the bench again.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a well above average EX Pokemon card and a card that is heavily used in the metagame.  Paired with Sky Field supporter, this card makes up the main draw mechanism in many decks out there and is definitely worth consideration in any deck you may be building.  Power wise, this card isn't that great, but you aren't using this card for its attack, you're using it to draw cards.

M Rayquaza EX 76/108 -- Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Mega Rayquaza EX from the Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Set.  This is the second of two Mega Rayquaza cards I've reviewed from this set, the other being a dragon type card.  Mega Rayquaza EX is a Mega Evolution, EX, dragon type Pokemon card with an hp of 220. It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Mega Rayquaza does not have an Ability but it does have an Ancient Trait called Evolution that says you may evolve Rayquaza into M Rayquaza the first turn of the game or as soon as you put Rayquaza into play.  Besides the Ancient Trait, this card just has one move called Emerald Break that requires three colorless energy cards to use and does 30 damage times the number of your benched Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
Before I start with the strategy, remember that this card is a Mega Evolution card and an EX card so if you use this card in your deck and it gets knocked out, your opponent gets to take two prize cards instead of one and when you evolve an EX card into its Mega Evolution, your turn ends, you cannot do anything else.  So knowing these things, you'll always want to use Mega Evolution cards with caution, with that being said, I would highly recommend using this card in any type deck out there, I would however make sure to use it with the Sky Field stadium card which allows both you and your opponent to have up to 8 Pokemon on your bench, that way, you can get 8 Pokemon on your bench, then use M Rayquaza's Emerald Break move and do 240 damage a turn every single turn.  So looking at the two M Rayquaza EX cards from this set, I would much rather use this card than the Dragon type one even though that card can do up to 300 damage a turn, the move is much slower and requires you to discard energy every time you use it.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an excellent Mega EX Pokemon card from the Roaring Skies set and one that a deck could be built around if you plan on using the Sky Field stadium card with it allowing you to do 240 damage every single turn for only three energy cards.  Combined with Rayquaza EX, the colorless type, I would still give this line a 5 out of 5 rating just because I think M Rayquaza EX is so good.
