Illumise -- Primal Clash Pokemon Card Review

Illumise Primal Clash Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Illumise from the Primal Clash Pokemon Card Set.  Illumise is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 70, it has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Illumise does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Helping Hand, this move requires one grass energy card to use and it allows you to search your deck for an energy card and attach it to one of your benched Pokemon.  Illumise's second move is called Twirling Sign, this move requires one colorless type energy card and does 10 damage, plus it confuses the defending Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Illumise is a basic Pokemon with no evolutions, you only have to use this Pokemon in your deck if you want to use this card.  With that being said, I could definitely see myself using this card as a starter type card in my deck.  I would include 1 or 2 of these in that deck and try to use Illumise in the active Pokemon spot to start the game.  You could either confuse the defending Pokemon right away with Twirling Sign and hope the defending Pokemon does damage to itself after that, or you could use this card right away to set up your benched Pokemon, essentially being able to attach two energy cards a turn if you use Helping Hand over Twirling Sign.  This card definitely won't know the socks off your opponent, but it is a very solid card that will definitely help you early on in games.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average Basic Pokemon card from the Primal Clash set.  Like I said in the strategy section, this Pokemon really isn't that powerful, but both moves it has are very quick, and they complement each other very nicely, plus add in an above average HP and low retreat cost, and this card is definitely a card that should be considered for grass type decks.

Volbeat -- Primal Clash Pokemon Card Review

Volbeat Primal Clash Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Volbeat from the Primal Clash Pokemon Card Set.  Volbeat is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Volbeat does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Acrobatics, this move requires one grass energy card and does 10 damage, plus 20 more damage for each heads you get when you flip two coins.  Volbeat's second move is called Pester, this move requires two colorless energy cards and does 30 damage plus 30 more damage if the defending Pokemon is affected by a special condition.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Volbeat is a Basic Pokemon card with no evolution, you will only have to use this card in a deck if you choose to use it at all.  So knowing this about Volbeat and actually looking at this card, this card can definitely do some damage very quickly and for little energy, so if I were building a grass type deck, I would definitely give some consideration on using this card in a deck.  I would recommend using this card as a starter type Pokemon in your deck, so I would use 1 or 2 of these cards in a deck.  Of course I would want to get this card into the active Pokemon spot to start the game and use whichever move I had the required energy for.  You could always attack a Trick Coin tool card to Volbeat and get two opportunities to do up to 50 damage for only one energy card when using Acrobatics.  It would also be smart to have a Pokemon in your deck that inflicts special conditions so that Pester could do 60 damage a turn.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, this is an above average Basic Pokemon card from the Primal Clash set, one that could be used as a starter type Pokemon in a grass type deck.  There really isn't anything to complain about on this card, it has an above average HP, low retreat cost, and two very solid moves, making the card above average overall and recommended for any grass type deck out there.

Breloom -- Primal Clash Pokemon Card Review

Breloom Primal Clash Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Breloom from the Primal Clash Pokemon Card Set.  Breloom is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Breloom does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Dynamic Punch, this move requires two energy cards to use, one each of fighting and colorless, and does 40 damage plus 20 more damage if you get a heads when you flip a coin, plus if you flip a heads the defending Pokemon is confused.  Breloom's second move is called Mega Kick, this move requires three energy cards to use, two fighting and one colorless, and does 80 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Breloom is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Shroomish into play (I reviewed Shroomish from this set yesterday) and then evolve Shroomish into Breloom.  If you read yesterday's review of Shroomish, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon card, it was very poor on its own, since all it could do was put the defending Pokemon to sleep, it couldn't do any damage, but if you plan on using this card with Breloom, it wouldn't be so bad.  So knowing this about Shroomish and looking at this Breloom card, the first thing you'll want to note is that even though Breloom is a grass type Pokemon card, it requires fighting type energy cards to attack.  What I would recommend with this line is if you're building a fighting type deck to consider using a 1-1 line of Shroomish and Breloom.  That way, you can start the game with Shroomish in the active Pokemon spot, keep putting the defending Pokemon to sleep while setting up your benched Pokemon, or you can evolve Shroomish into Breloom on the bench, get three energy cards on Breloom and do 80 damage a turn.  The only time I would recommend using Dynamic Punch over Mega Kick is if the defending Pokemon has more than 160 HP and cannot be knocked out in two turns, if that is the case, you could try and confuse the defending Pokemon and potentially make them knock out themselves.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Primal Clash set.  There isn't really anything I dislike about this card, it has a good HP, average retreat cost, and two above average moves.  The only thing on this card is that you'll have to be a bit patient since it does require a minimum of two energy cards to attack.  So together with Shroomish from this set, which I gave a 1 rating, I would give this Pokemon family a 3 out of 5 rating, used together, these two Pokemon can be a great addition to your deck.

Shroomish -- Primal Clash Pokemon Card Review

Shroomish Primal Clash Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Shroomish from the Primal Clash Pokemon Card Set.  Shroomish is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Shroomish does not have an Ability and it only has one move called Spore, this move requires one colorless energy card to use and it puts the defending Pokemon to sleep.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Shroomish is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Breloom, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, I would not recommend using this card in a deck, the main reason being that it cannot do any damage when attacking, plus even if you do put the defending Pokemon to sleep, if they get a heads when they flip a coin, they can attack like normal.  So unless you really want a Shroomish card in your deck, or you are desperate for one last card to put into your deck, do not use this card on its own.  All you can do with it is put the defending Pokemon to sleep, and late in games, with only 60 HP, it can easily get knocked out in one move.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Breloom, this card is a very poor Basic Pokemon card from the Primal Clash set and thus I am giving this card my lowest rating.  If you plan to use this card with Breloom, it will be somewhat useful but there is just no point to using this card on its own, since it cannot do any damage when attacking.
