Torchic -- Furious Fists Pokemon Card Review

Torchic Furious Fists Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Torchic from the Furious Fists set.  Torchic is a basic, fire type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Torchic does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Quick Attack, for two energy cards, one each of fire and colorless, this move does 10 damage, but if you get a heads when you flip a coin, this move does 40 damage total instead of 10.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Torchic is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Combusken and a stage 2 evolution in Blaziken, which I'll be reviewing the next two days, you'll more than likely want to use those cards with this Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed those cards yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolutions.  So on its own, I would consider using one of these cards in a fire type deck as a starter type Pokemon.  The reason I would only use one of this card if I were to use it at all is because Quick Attack doesn't do much damage for two energy cards if you don't get a heads when flipping a coin, but if you do get a heads, 40 damage is very good for only two energy cards.  So strategy wise, make sure and get this card into the active Pokemon spot very early in the game, then you'll need to get two energy cards on Torchic to be able to use Quick Attack every single turn, you'll also want to hope for some luck with this card so you can do way above average damage every single turn.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average Basic Pokemon card from the Furious Fists set.  Even though Torchic's Quick Attack move will probably do below average damage for the amount of energy cards it requires I am still giving this card an average rating based on the potential Quick Attack can do and for the fact Torchic has a solid HP, and low retreat cost.  So if you're in need of a Basic Pokemon card for your fire type deck, this one should definitely be considered.

Magmortar -- Furious Fists Pokemon Card Review

Magmortar Furious Fists Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Magmortar from the Furious Fists Pokemon Card Set.  Magmortar is a stage 1, fire type Pokemon card, with an hp of 120.  It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Magmortar does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Flame Charge, for one fire energy card this move does 30 damage, plus it allows you to search your deck for a fire energy card and attach it to Magmortar.  Magmortar's second move is called Twin Bursts, this move requires four energy cards, three colorless and one fire, and does 80 damage, plus if Electivire is on your bench, this move does 80 more damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Magmortar is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Magmar into play (I reviewed Magmar from this set yesterday) and then evolve Magmar into Magmortar.  If you read yesterday's review of Magmar, you'll know that I thought that card was an average Basic Pokemon card that I gave a little below average rating to because of its higher retreat cost and move that made you discard an energy card each turn.  So knowing this about Magmar and looking at this Magmortar card, the only time I think I would use this family in a deck would be if I were building a dual type deck of lightning and fire type Pokemon, that way I could utilize the extra damage that Twin Bursts does and do 160 damage every single turn.  So, I would only recommend using Magmortar in a deck with Electivire, I would set up Magmar and then Magmortar on the bench, get four energy cards on it, and then make sure Electivire is on the bench before moving Magmortar to the active Pokemon spot.  After that, I would make sure and use Twin Bursts every single turn.  I wouldn't use more than a 2-2 line of Magmar and Magmortar in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Furious Fists set.  If this card were just to be used in a regular, all fire type deck, that is the rating I would give it, I would pump this card up to a 4 rating if I were to use it in a dual type deck like I discussed above.  So overall, I would give the combination of Magmar and Magmortar from this set, a 3 out of 5 rating, both cards are good together and about average, so they are definitely worth a look.

Magmar -- Furious Fists Pokemon Card Review

Magmar Furious Fists Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Magmar from the Furious Fists Pokemon Card Set.  Magmar is a basic, fire type Pokemon card with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Magmar does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Ram, this move requires one fire energy card and does 10 damage.  Magmar's second move is called Ember, and for two energy cards, one each of fire and colorless, the move does 30 damage, however you must discard a fire energy card attached to Magmar after using this move.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Magmar is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Magmortar, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own you could definitely use this card as a starter type Pokemon in a fire type deck because it has such a high HP and because it has two moves.  I personally, would not use more than 1 of these cards on their own if I were to use this card at all.  I say this because even though Magmar has a good HP and two moves, Ram is an average move, but limited, and Ember would be a great move but having to discard a fire energy card every turn while trying to set up your benched Pokemon is not the best thing to have to do, plus if you want to just use Ram, you'll have to attach an additional energy card to Magmar to retreat it.  So, if you use this card in a deck, I would use it as a starter type card, get it into the active Pokemon spot early, use Ram most turns, so you have time to set up your benched Pokemon, then attach an additional energy card on it to retreat it back to your bench and put one of your more powerful Pokemon into the active Pokemon spot.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Furious Fists set.  This card is probably the best 2 rated card I have reviewed in awhile but I just couldn't give the card a 3 rating because of the fact Ember makes you discard an energy card and that the retreat cost on Magmar is two energy cards.  So overall, if you're building a fire type deck, this card is definitely one to consider but I would probably look elsewhere for one to use.

Accelgor -- Furious Fists Pokemon Card Review

Accelgor Furious Fists Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Accelgor from the Furious Fists Pokemon Card Set.  Accelgor is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a free retreat cost.  Accelgor does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Raid, for one colorless energy card this move does 20 damage, plus if you evolved Shelmet into Accelgor during this turn, Accelgor's Raid move does 60 damage total instead of 20.  Accelgor's second move is called Afterimage Strike, this move requires two energy cards, one each of grass and colorless, and does 40 damage, plus during your opponent's next turn, any damage done to Accelgor is prevented if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Accelgor is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Shelmet into play (I reviewed Shelmet from this set yesterday) and then evolve Shelmet into Accelgor.  If you read yesterday's review of Shelmet, you'll know that I thought that card would have been a very solid Pokemon card except for its very high retreat cost made the card pretty much unusable on its own, since the retreat cost on Shelmet was two energy cards higher than the cost of the only move it had.  So knowing this about Shelmet, if you make sure and use that card with this Accelgor card, I would definitely recommend the Shelmet card because you can put it into the active Pokemon spot to start the game, do up to 20 damage right away, evolve Shelmet into Accelgor in the active Pokemon spot, use Raid one turn and do 60 damage, then use Afterimage Strike every other turn and do 40 damage to the defending Pokemon and possibly prevent all damage after that, giving you plenty of time to set up your benched Pokemon.  I would probably use either a 1-1 or a 2-2 line of this Pokemon family in a grass type deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Furious Fists set.  The first thing I really like about this card is the free retreat cost, especially since Shelmet has such a high one.  Second, I like the two moves that Accelgor has, both do above average damage and both do a little more than just attack.  So overall, I would give the line of Shelmet and Accelgor from this set a 3 out of 5 rating, which is an average rating, but this 3 rating is very close to a 4.  Individually I have Shelmet a 2 rating and Accelgor a 4.
