Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Mothim from the Fates Collide Pokemon Card Set. Mothim is a Stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a free retreat cost. Mothim's Ability is called Wormadam first and says that as often as you'd like, you may move 1 damage counter from 1 of your Wormadam to another of your Pokemon. Besides the Ability, Mothim just has one move called Gust that does 60 damage for three colorless energy cards.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Mothim is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Burmy into play (I reviewed Burmy from this set two days ago) and then evolve Burmy into Mothim. If you read my review of Burmy, you'll know that I thought that card was a slightly below average Basic Pokemon card, mainly because it was so limited in what it could do, just having one move that could do a maximum of 10 damage per turn. But other than that, it was solid overall, with an average HP and low retreat cost. One thing you'll want to consider with this Mothim card is that Burmy can also evolve into Wormadam and that there are two different Wormadam cards you can use in this set. But, if you do decide to use this card in a deck, you would be smart to use a 2-2 line of Burmy and then one each of Wormadam and Mothim so that you can utilize Mothim's Ability on the bench. This card works well from the bench with yesterday's Wormadam card, since Wormadam can heal 20 damage a turn from all of your Pokemon and do up to 90 damage a turn, so if you move a damage counter from Wormadam while it is in the active Pokemon spot to potentially prevent a knockout, you can then remove that damage from your benched Pokemon with Wormadam's move. So I would suggest at least considering this line when playing a grass type deck. I would recommend keeping Mothim on the bench for the most part, but if you have to, Gust is an average move overall.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is a slightly below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Fates Collide set that becomes a little more than average if used with Wormadam, since it can then be effective while on the bench. Like I said above, I would consider using a 2-2 line of this Pokemon family when deck building. I would give the line of Burmy and Mothim a 2 out of 5 rating overall, but with Wormadam a 3.
